Soaring to New Heights
I have been overweight my entire life pretty much. The only real exception to that is when I graduated high school. I lost 50 pounds doing a fad diet and was looking pretty good at about 240 (better than 290 but still overweight of course).
That lasted about a year before I put on what I had lost and more. Ahh, so that's what they meant when they said "yo-yo dieting".

That was many years ago (more than I like to think about nowadays) and eventually I found myself saying "I will never let myself weigh 400 pounds". But by March 2008 I weighed 455. So much for that goal huh?
But March 2008 is when what turned out to be a minor health scare caused a "spark" that lit a fire under me and my wife (notaboutheface, in case you know her). We were off to a great start but fizzled a bit towards the end of 2008 with about a 30 pound loss at that point.
In April 2009 we started up again and something just really clicked this time. At the time of this writing (updated October 2011) I am at 278 and vow never to see the 300's or higher ever again.
I think when it all comes down to it, I needed to just believe in myself. Sure, eating right and exercising makes me lose this weight. But the secret to my success so far has simply been believing that I can do this. It does help a lot to have a supportive wife who is right there with me every step of the way.
We've got a long way to go, but we are in this for the long haul.
Yeah, we got this!

My Goals:
Just trying to get back into a healthier weight and looking forward to the day when my wife and I can ride a roller coaster together again.
Also hope to learn to surf someday, ride bikes, cross country ski. Who knows what else!
My Program:
That old fashioned eat right and exercise, being sure to watch the portions and eat slowly.
I don't really deprive myself. Just try to stay under about 2500 calories for now and will adjust that as I lose weight.
Exercise includes C25K program on treadmill, strength training 3x week, cardio (Zumba, Tae Bo, Turbo Fire, Powerstrike, and more). 5 times per week minimum for 45-60 minutes.
Typically drink 82 ounces of water per day.

I thought I saw you both in Paradise in August, but, alas, it was not you. I will be up there again next summer.
