Updated January 8, 2020 -I am a retired Naval Officer. My husband and I moved to Montana from Hawaii in 1996. We live 11 miles outside of a town with a population of 96 in cattle and sheep ranch country. I garden and like computer games. I have had to give up knitting and needlepoint because of arthritis in my hands. There are no fitness clubs or facilities near by-the school gym has a weight room but very old equipment. I have a Wii Fit and a Golds Gym bike which I need to use. I like walking but winter around here makes it a little difficult. I also have COPD which sometimes limits my exercise. I have always struggled with weight. Since 2000, I have gained an average of 4 pounds per year. Now it all and more has to come off so I can be around to enjoy my children and grandchildren. I was with Fat Secret for a long time and got bored. I love SP. Since I started with SP I lost 25 pounds and then I gained it all back. Knowing I can do it is important. At age 68, it gets harder to lose and especially to get the exercise. I do get some walks in. I mostly exercise inside. My biggest challenge is over eating. My husband is on a 3 meal a day schedule when I would like to be on a 2 meal per day.My journey to weighing 175 pounds is started as of 9/1/2017. I actually joined SP in 2012 but I have reset. I reset again today. My new challenges are arthritis in my back and bursitis in my hip. I now have a collection of fitness bands to do physical therapy with.

My Goals:
Lose 67 pounds to goal weight of 175 for my health especially the high cholesterol, GERD, COPD and back issies.

My Program:
Because of where I live, I am on my own diet. I find tracking food and exercise helps as well as having a support group. I don't think paying for WW or Nutrisystem does any good. I can make healthy food and the right proportions.

Personal Information:
I was born in Massachusetts, went to high school in Dobbs Ferry, NY, College at Connecticut College in New London Connecticut. After living and working around Boston, I joined the Navy and went to Newport Rhode Island then to Norfolk, Virginia, to Adak, Alaska, to Virginia Beach, VA, then to Hawaii.

Other Information:
I have 2 children and 5 grandchildren.

Had to stop by and visit your SP page. So impressed that you decided to retire to Montana! WOW!!! I'm an air force brat; dad was stationed in North Dakota and I just remember running into a snow storm in JUNE on our way to Arizona to visit dads family. I was in USN for 4 years in the 1970's serving as a Hospital Corpsman at Little Creek Amphibious Base VA. Loved the photo of your home in the snow emoticon emoticon

    Dare to Downshift

Wouldn’t it be amazing to find a soft spot, flop down, and just be every once in a while? To stop the chores and the calls and the calendar chaos and do nothing but breathe? Well, guess what? You can! But only if you choose to. Beware of the constant energy that propels you to do more, be more, fix more, and achieve more – it doesn’t own you. You’re the one who shifted into third gear in the first place, and you’re the one who can put on the brakes anytime you need. Don’t fall for the lie that it all has to be done now, done perfectly, and done by you. You may do it all eventually (but, news flash – the world won’t end if you don’t). "

thank you for taking the time to comment on my blog .. I appreciate your taking the time .. Have an amazing Saturday .. Feb 1st ..

yes I agree staying positive and in charge is huge .. I love your intro page .. but I can't imagine moving from Hawaii to Montana ...
Hawaii is on my bucket list ..
I live 15 minutes North of the North Dakota border .. in Canada .. lots of ranches and grain farming ..
we recently moved from the farm to the city since we had been commuting for 9 years from the farm to work .. 2 hours every day ( oil and gas drilling business ) ..
so over those 9 years I had as many as 26 mini donkeys, 9 horses , 2 sheep , 2 llamas , chickens and boarded by daughters male goats in the summer .. my hubby had 140 head of cattle mostly highlanders ..
three gardens .. huge flower beds .. and loved every minute of farm life
I'm sorry that arthritis is giving you a run .. maybe this tidbit will hep
I have a dear friend that started taking apple cider vinegar for his arthritis about 6 years ago .. he start out with a table spoon a day in hot water with honey or not .. worked his way up to 3 table spoons a day .. he said it took about a year for the apple cider to take over .. now he just maintains .. he's back to a table spoon a day ..
something to think about ..this friend had been in an horrid accident where he fell 20 feet landing on his feet .. causing extensive damage to his heels and all the way through his body .. he truly is a miracle .. he should be in a wheel chair .. but he claims the AC vinegar is his saving grace ..along with a healthy diet of home made foods .. breads made with lots of different organic grains .. daily serving of nuts .. evening treat of a couple of squares of super organic dark 80% + cacao with fruit .. he claims going to Belise years ago saved his life .. he encountered a naturopathic healer and began his return to restored health .. he is 72 and looks and acts as though he is in his fifties ..

there I've planted a seed .. I hope you find some relief

I've been taking garlic , ginger and honey in hot water since October .. today I will switch things up .. I'll still take my garlic concoction in the morning ... then add the apple cider later in the morning .. trying to do both on an empty stomach so as to best get all the benefits..

Oh yes .. the news .. wow .. it really can set the tune for the day .. life can be overwhelming enough without a dousing of negativity and worry ..

I truly avoid it like the plague ..

yesterday my hubby said .. " that why you don't know whats going on .. you dont watch or listen to the news ... he was talking about some pulp mill being shut down in Scotland .. our paper and lumber is going to go up he says .. seriously .. hmm I would think they would use up their production in their own countries .. not ship lumber and paper to a country that has lumber and paper .. I smile ..
Oh he says .. it was on the news .. that's why you don't know anything ... you don't listen ..

all of this conversation while we were out for a nice meal last night ..
all I did was continue smile .. seriously .. hmm
who really gives a rip .. besides you dear hubby .. ha ha ..
life is amazing .. it surly is .. and much better when I avoid the news .. and keep my pie hole shut ..
