Hi!
My name is Marj. I've struggled with my weight and fitness for most of my life and have had some success - I've never been grossly over weight. BUT my heart knows that I could do better. It is important to do my very best in every pursuit so that I can bring honor and glory to my Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.

For most of my married life, I was privileged to be a stay-at-home Mom. My husband and I have been married for 45 years and still counting. We have two sons, Shane age 41 and Clint age 39. We have three grandsons: Tyler age 19, Jared age 9 1/2, and Brady age 8.

In 2004 I began working as Deputy Clerk/Treasurer for a small city in north eastern Minnesota. That was my job until I retired at the end of September 2010.

During my working years my routine was quite consistent and my morning schedule included a half-hour walk with Leslie Sansone. BUT since my retirement I have not been motivated to get on any regimen on a regular basis. Thus, after the holidays of 2010 I had gained around 10 pounds!! :(

Then in early 2011 I was introduced to SparkPeople - and what a blessing that has been! Since the beginning of 2011 I have lost about 16 pounds and am within 2-3 pounds of my weight at marriage, 45 years ago!

My goal is to continue with a healthy eating and exercise plan for the rest of my life. It will be interesting to see where my weight will level out!

February 2013: Time to update a bit here. So far I've been quite successful on this journey! Reached my first goal about 7 months after I started with SP. Decided to go for another 10 pounds, and have 4 more to reach that goal! Praise the Lord! I feel so much better about myself and I know that if I cooperate, He will keep me at a healthy weight!

My Goals:
My goal is to follow my eating program and exercise regularly and let the weight level off at whatever number is right for me.


My Program:
l. Eating large meals for breakfast and lunch. Very light - veggies and fruit - in the evening.

2. Eat VERY slowly (small bites) to make my portion last as long as it takes hubby to eat his meal. We eat almost the same things, but my portions are weighed and measured.

3. Exercise at least 5 days per week. I do in-home walking, biking and some hiking.

    Hi Marj! Looks like you and I have a similar story. The only time anyone considered me chubby was in adolescence. Ironic that recently I was at my high weight back then (145, non-pregnant) and people considered me slim. Standards have changed so much, not for the better.

    The 85% paleo is an estimate. People tend to talk about how completely they adhere to the lifestyle and very few are 100%. 100% would mean only 'clean' meats and produce (very expensive and not always available), no grains or grain products, no artificial sweeteners, no non-fermented dairy, basically nothing 'non-paleo', plus regular weight training, interval training, and lots of other movement as walking and the like. "Is it Paleo" is a question frequently asked on my fav paleo website, marksdailyapple.com.

    I keep the exercise, though probably not as much movement as optimal, and low-carb but I rarely splurge on grass fed/pastured meat/poultry nor do we buy organic veggies. I also consume some non-paleo foods sparingly.

    So I guesstimate I am about 85% compliant in the sense that I feel I get about 85% of the benefits of the lifestyle...but who knows?

    I'm maintaining around 133 and finding it OK but an ongoing commitment to self-discipline.
