Hi JJ! I just saw your comment on my insulin resistance blog and am responding now.
I am curious if you ever ordered a HBa1c test and if so what the results are?
I have found I have to also avoid any sort of starches which is basically all grains. I still eat a gluten free pizza on occasion but pay for it.. I try to get a 30 minute walk in afterwards. I'm also not very good with milk, which I used to love, half milk half tea, and drink every day a couple of times a day. No sweets either, fruit sparingly, mostly berries, in order to keep my glucose results low.
With everything I've managed to get my Hba1c down to 5.4, but I am finding my fasting glucose is still pretty high... now its in the 110 range. UGH. I started taking milk thistle for this (apparently its the confused liver that puts out too much glucogen, which raises blood sugar when we are fasting), but the jury is still out if its going to work or not... its only been about a week.
As for the eyes, I take a bit of taurine (an amino acid that's important to the retina), eat blueberries ( I put them in my tea with chia seeds instead of milk) and spinach every day. About every 3rd day or on days I don't get spinach, I take lutien, zeaxanthin and astaxanthin. I also wear a broad brim hat, and sunglasses when I leave the house.
Looking forward to hearing from you! All these diabetes symptoms aren't supposed to happen at our prediabetic glucose levels, but apparently our bodies aren't reading those rules! ha
Be well! : ) Mzzchief PS, also very important to drink your 8 glasses of pure water everyday, as this helps the kidneys filter sugar from your blood. 2092 days ago

Yeah I know what you mean, you hit fifty and suddenly you turn into a pumpkin! I'm really noticing how much harder it is to get the weight down. Though mind you, the extra weight training I'm doing is having an effect - my weight on the scale has moved down a bit, not as much as I'd like but my clothes are definitely looser and I'm almost down a dress size! I've bought a DVD by Jackie Warner - Personal Training With Jackie - 30 Day Fast Start. She does what she calls 'pyramid training' two moves in a set and you start with doing one of each move then do two, then three.. up to ten - which works out to be 55 reps of each move. I find I'm enjoying this more than Jillian - I'm Jillian'd out at the moment and was losing motivation to do her DVDs. Plus I'm still doing my Kettlebell DVD - love this one, have to be brave though and try level 2!!! Keep going Jackie, but try to find something you really enjoy for exercise - it will keep you motivated. 2154 days ago
