My name is Jen and I'm looking for a friend who's in the battle of the bulge with me! I'm 29 and getting the the point where I have trouble moving.

I tried for a year to lose weight through diet and exercise and successfully lost 20 lbs overall with periods of weight gain. I have PCOS and unfortunately the weightloss that I had been so proud of all but disappeared. A year's worth of work lost.

I felt like I was doing something wrong!! But I wasn't eating out often, I was cutting my portions, eating more healthy almost too healthy and my weight kept rising.

With 140 lbs to lose I began worrying and stressing out about how serious my health issues (including sleep apnea, insomnia, pre-diabetes) had become.

In April of 2008, I decided to have gastric bypass RNY surgery.

Update:
5/17/09: 172 still. Not going to complain! Ran a race today in 33:34! The Apple Blossom Special. I beat my old 5K time so I'm elated today! My endurance and strength are improving! It's awesome to see the results. I'm still having pain in abdomen, especially after running. Completely unrelated, huge tailbone pain for the last 3 weeks. Probably because of the padding in my butt(gone), but I'm going to mention it at the doc just in case.

6/13/09 170lbs. Scale seems to be moving again, albeit slowly. I ran another 5K today. Met a new friend and broke a new record for myself. My race time, unofficially was 31:30. Looking forward to June 28th, which is my next race.

7/19/09 168.5 lbs I ran the "Notes for Cliff 5k" on June 28th and my time was just over 33 minutes. The course was 1/2 on gravel (which I had never run on before) and my heartrate was higher than I think it has ever been before. Yesterday, I ran a 8K race for Rivertown days (out local city festival) in just over 50 minutes. I couldn't be more proud because the race went up an enormous hill at the end and I kept the pace even when I really wanted to quit! Found out last week that Jamie (my work friend) and I are running in the Twin Cities 10mile race in October. YAY!

5/24/12 Sad that I've regained about 40 lbs. Alot has been happening in the last 1 1/2 years. I was remarried and had a total hysterectomy.

I'm back on track - yet not perfect - in both tracking my food and exercise. I'm feeling better each day and I do not have any options.

I WILL LOSE THIS WEIGHT a second time :-)

My Goals:
To get rid of pre-diabetes - Accomplished!

To reduce or eliminate migraine headaches - Accomplished

To never have high cholesterol and blood pressure - Accomplished

To toss the friggin' CPAP (for sleep apnea) machine out the window - Accomplished

Goal weight after surgery will be 150.

I want to stay focused on toning my body and increasing endurance and flexibility.

To drink at least 64 oz. of water every day

To take my vitamins every day

To run a 5K straight through by June - Accomplished

To run a 8K straight through by mid-July - Accomplished

To run a 10K straight through by September -
Accomplished

To run a 10-mile race by October-
Accomplished!

To run a half-marathon by April. (Sadly still working on this one!


My Program:
RNY on September 2nd 2008. 7:30am.

Cardio 5x/week
Weightlifting 3x/week

Trying to exercise in ways I wouldn't have in the past i.e. going up 6 flights of stairs to my floor at work.



Personal Information:
Can't wait to hike, bike, zip line and any other darn thing I want to do when this weight is gone.



Other Information:
Love love love music and reading. Gosh I can't believe sometimes how boring I am :-)

Gimme a good outdoor concert anytime and I'm happy!

    Welcome to Gastric Bypass! You’ll find plenty of support and encouragement here. No question is too stupid to ask, so post away and we’ll all put in our two cents worth. Utilize all the tools SP has to offer. I find tracking my food and exercise most helpful. Good luck on your weight loss journey!
