I am 40, female, fat & flatulent. These four descriptors are a recipe for disaster. How did I earn the privilege of being such a disasterous recipe?

Well the answer is easy: Not caring or focusing on the hints & signals my body was giving me.

When my camisole no longer fit over my stomach in 2003, instead of exercising or watching my intake, I simply brought a new one. I thought to myself maybe I am gaining weight. But then I thought" the camisole is pretty old & worn it probably has lost all of its elasticity".

When I began having problems with knee pain I said to myself: Wow this knee pain is intense I should see a doctor & find out if I have arthritis. It never dawned on me that my weight was at an all time high and maybe have been the culprit. Instead I purchased special liniments, barrowed a knee brace and continued to gain weight. I said to myself: No big deal the pain is probably related to the cold weather.

When I no longer could fit the size 8 ball gowns I purchased as a reward for loosing 50 pounds, instead of taking inventory of my health I brought new dresses. When I could no longer fit the size 10-14 ballgowns I purchased to replace teh size 8 's then I stopped atended functions that required such attire. I said to myself: No big deal, if an event arises & I need a new ball gown then I will be able to afford to purchase one.

When I could not fit my favorite jeans I brought a new pair. Never did it cross my mind that I should actively try to loose weight.

When the pain in my lower back caused the inability to breath comfortably, when the pain in my back was so intense that I fell on my knees & begged for a pain injection, when the pain in my back was so intense that I cried like a new born baby, when the pain in my back was so intense that I could not move, when the pain in my back was so intense that I could not get in our out of my car--that is when I stopped ignoring the signs. But even that was temporary. I knew this new back pain was related to weight gain so I tried to pull myself together & exericse you know --do all the right things to loose the poundage. But at times I went on eating sprees. I gained 8 pounds in 5 days. Gained & lost 3-8 pounds for a season. I was back to my regular stunts. The back pain became a distant memory & I was able to focus upon my every day life of ignoring the warning signals my body sends me on a regular basis.
