Turning 50 has been good ~ I feel good and it seems like 50 has given me permission to accept me ~ bumps, wrinkles and all!

Like a lot of sparkers, I have fought the weight battle for a long time. And I still haven't won it. I've had a few chemically-induced successes (who doesn't remember Ephedra?) but for way too long, I've been inconsistent with my fitness efforts.

I found SparkPeople in '06 when I was into BeachBody/Million Dollar Body. One of my thread buddies there recommended it. I used it very sporadically but now, INow that I've finally made exercise a HABIT, the next challenge is tackling my nutrition. I eat good food about 95% of the time...I just eat too much of it!

SO WHAT'S UP WITH THAT WEIRD BIKE?
I discovered cycling in the early 90's...started on a Huffy and I remember the first time I rode 12 miles non-stop. I felt the king of the world. As my cycling progessed, I got better bikes. At the time, I was cycling in Central Ohio...a haven for hilly country roads and miles of rail trails. http://www.nerk.com/bike_trails.htm
Cycling became a passion!

Then in 1999, I had surgery for degenerative disk disease - and had a couple vertebrate in my neck fused. Gone were the days of leaning over the handle bars. As luck would have it, I saw a neighbor riding a recumbent bike. It took me three tries to find the right bike, but I ended up with this beautiful bike that I can ride for hours with no neck pain. I get lots of stares (and glares from diamond frame riders...what's up with that? We all love pushing the pedals!) My bike is a Easy Racer Gold Rush Replica...it's predecessor is in the Smithsonian as land speed record holder for "human powered vehicles"! This bike does fly! But she's tough on the uphills - I can't stand on the pedals!

Now that I live in Wilmington, my riding options are limited. It's unsafe here and hills? Forget it! But I've found places to ride that are safe - but they can't compare to my Ohio rides. In Ohio, a three-hour trek wasn't uncommon. When you're crossing covered bridges and pedalling thru forests and hills, time flies! But here, I just don't have access to good riding roads and rail trails are non-existant. But we pedal on - I just go round and round ...

Fitness Minutes: 13,043

My Goals:
They are weekly mini goals...I'm using the "Other Goals" area of the site to help me stay on track.

Overall thought, I want to
get and KEEP my weight in the mid 130's and get my body fat down to normal ranges.

Weight: 166
BF: 41%

My Program:
I focus on five things:

1. Do SOMETHING everyday ~ even if it's only a good stretch. I want log fitness minutes EVERY day so I know I'm taking some time to take care of myself every single day.

2. Making sure I get at least 180 minutes per week of good cardio. I often shoot for more but life does get in the way sometimes.

3. No snacking at night unless it's fruit or popcorn.

4. Eating less at meals - while s-l-o-w-i-n-g down when I eat. Snack on healthy stuff ~ fruits, veg & nut butter or hummus, oganic yogurt. I allow myself the occasional "cheat" but am mindful that a cheat can turn to a major munchfest.

5. In Sept 09, I discovered hoop dance - hula hooping and I am in love with it! It closely taps into the part of me that always wanted to be dancer but never did!

Personal Information:
Part owner in a house-flipping business. We sell/leaseoption several houses a year and have a few rental properties.

The house flipping is great fun...but also very hard work (don't let the TV shows fool you...this business is riddled with risk and headaches but if you can take it, it's worthwhile).

I have a beautiful 29 year old daughter in CO, a laid back, very old cocker spaniel and a wonderful life and business partner of 19 years.

Riding my bike is one of my favorite things and i had the honor of participating in the Leukemia Society's Team In Training ride several years ago.

I emoticon your background image! So cool.

I just mapped all my walking routes for school. I knew I was walking a lot, but it's nice to get a better estimate! I've already walked almost 6 miles this week.

Hugh MacRae Park is one of the oldest and best known parks in New Hanover County. The park was given to the County in the 1920's. Located near the intersection of South College Road and Oleander Drive, the 98-Acre park is well know for festivals and events such as the Piney Woods Festival, the Sounds of Summer Concert Series, the Annual Chili Cook-Off, and the Wing Fling. Facilities include lighted tennis courts, playgrounds, ball fields with seasonal concessions, an equestrian ring and a Pet Exercise Area. The Winter Park Optimist Club operates the County's oldest youth baseball and softball program at the park. There are six picnic shelters, picnic tables, grills and rest rooms located in the park as well. The garden and gazebo near the pond area are very popular places for weddings, especially in the Spring when the azaleas and dogwoods are in full bloom.
