I have begun a new way of thinking about food and eating. Whole30. If you haven't heard of it; look it up. It's an elimination/reintroduction plan to help you realize foods that you may be sensitive to. I've found out that I can't eat corn, wheat, peanuts or super-sugary things. They all make me tired, achey, have GI upset and more. It was surprising and shocking as I'd eaten those foods my entire life! But eliminating and then reintroducing slowly to find the problems was eye-opening! I also fell in love with my kitchen and found it to be a wonderful creative outlet for me.

I have three great kids. One married, one in grad school and one starting her sophomore year of college next fall. I want to be around to thoroughly enjoy them more. And to be able to have tons of fun with my sweet granddaughter who is almost a year old!! I also don't want to be a burden to them; being too large to do things for myself, or too disabled to get around on my own. I was also diagnosed with arthritis in my lower back, pelvis, right hip and both knees; mild situational depression; NAFLD; as well as vascular insufficiency in my lower legs - this is actually improving with moving around more and drinking GALLONS of water. I'm too young for support hose!! Not really, but I need to make the changes that will make these diagnoses less severe. The Whole30 plan has alleviated lots of these medical issues. Cured? Not all. But the depression is gone, the arthritis is less painful, the inflammation is gone and the vascular insufficiency is nearly gone!! I will get more LFT's done this summer to see if my NAFLD has improved.

My 19 year old daughter has had some chronic health issues that have already benefitted from my changes on Whole30. She's on board with me and excited to try some new foods and recipes. She heads off to SE Asia this summer and is in full "work-out" mode; as she will be hiking in the mountains most days while she's there.

Divorced mom of 3 great kiddos. Also mom to 4 fur-babies; 1 canine, 2 feline. I play the piano for all the choirs at our high school. I am also the Worship Coordinator at my church; playing keyboard and singing on the Worship Team. I'm heading back to college to get my degree in Christian counseling.

    Welcome to SP--and thanks so much for the nice comments on my Spark Page. As working mothers, things can seem a bit daunting to us--and even more when we tend to put everyone else's needs before ours, because, well, that's what we do. You can do this, trust me!!
    I am so envious of anyone with musical talent--the music program at my kids' schools have taught them such poise and confidence, as well as to be polished musicians. I have 2 sons who have sent to state and this year, our daughter is going as a future music educator. I give thanks for the music program and the wonderful educators who work with them each day.
    Best wishes to you as you embark upon this important journey here. I'm going to make you one of my spark friends so that we can keep in touch with each other. Please feel free to ask me any questions that may come up as you start working your way around here.

    You can do it! My husband and I are keeping a box of wishes and next christmas we are going to give our boxes to eachother. They will be full of things we used to motivate us to be healthy. If I'm having a really hard time turning down that bag of chips that is talking to me and trying to romance me into eating it i will sit down and really think about on particular thing I want to be able to do with my husband that we can't just now until some of the weight comes off. I will imagine all the little specific things. Like for instance riding the rides at the top of the stratisphere in las vegas. I will visualize buying the tickets, riding the elevator up, waiting in line, trying to convince myself not to back out, the butterflies in my stomach, the thrill of controled panic, the wind, the view, the screams of others and me, the joy of doing that with Roy, the feeling of wonder, the sun, getting off all dizzy and full of energy! Then I will write it down on a piece of paper fold it up pretty and put it in the box. By the time I have done this visualization I no longer want the potatoe chips, that moment of temptation is OVER and if not I'll go on to another thing I want to do! It will be a great gift and then we will spend the next year picking out things from our boxes and going and doing them. Maybe something like that with your kids could help you?
