Starting again... Beginning in March 2008 I got motivated to take control of my life and started working with a nutritionist. Between March 5, 2008 to July 23, 2009 I lost 93 pounds. I started to feel really great about myself and maintained a steady weight. I should mention that I've done this with major diet changes and increases in my activity levels. However I seldom did any sort of traditional exercise. Sort of the "lazy man's" weight loss success. I had pretty much hit a plateau.

In October 2009 I got a second job working part-time in retail, to off-set the cost of all my new "skinny" clothes. Then in November 2009, when my main job as an office coordinator was eliminated I was fortunate enough to go full-time at my retail (more on that in a blog in the future) job. With the switch from a sedentary office job to an active retail position I dropped from a size 32 (11/12) in November 2009 to a size 29 (8/9) in June 2010. My weight loss averaged 1-4 pounds a month but I lost inches and I'd been really learning to like what I saw in the mirror. So much so that I finally got the courage to give up my last real crutch... smoking!

I've wanted to quit smoking for a long time but I was afraid that I wouldn't succeed or even worse... I'd lose control of my new healthy relationship with food and put back on all of the weight I'd lost. I am very proud to say as of today 10/26/2010 I have been smoke free for 16 weeks!!

I have to admit that in order to let go of one of my demons (smoking) I allowed another one to creep back in (emotional/bored eating). The difference for me this time is that I did it consciously. I was well aware of what I was doing... I must say gluttony is not nearly as fun when you know that your doing it. Of course I've gained back some weight but I'm tall and I can hide it a little bit easier and the truth is I've been allowing myself to be lazy. I've taken a little vacation from self-improvement, but now I'm back and ready to get back on track!!

I'm about 16 pounds heavier than I was in June and I have two pairs of jeans in my closet that I cannot wear right now. Now I'm motivated!!! For me nothing is more motivating than a hot pair of jeans... just waiting for me.
