I just turned 58! It took me about 5 years to lose 85+ lbs and to completely change my perspective on living. I've been maintaining my ideal weight now for almost 10 years. My amazing spouse (of almost 35 years) lost 70 and has maintained that for 13 years!

I am dedicated to maintaining this achievement for the rest of my life one day at a time. My focus is self care, nutrition and exercise. I've learned to love myself enough to do what's right for my body and my health. I started out believing I was unhappy because I was fat. I now know that I was fat because I was unhappy.

My motto is "No Excuses" because I have plenty:

Hypothyroidism since I was 35
Asthma that requires 2 inhalers and an oral med to control.
IBS with constipation causing chronic pain and bloating.
Deteriorating lumbar-sacral joint that requires a strict regimen of physio and training to keep it in check.
Morton's neuroma in my left foot; chronic plantar fasciitis in my right.
Migraines
Prone to anxiety and depression - recovering perfectionist.

It's a lengthy list that kept me obese for many years until, on January 5, 2004, I said "no more."

Change IS hard - but it is doable. Do it!

Other Information:
I run 30km week.
I strength train 3x/wk with the most amazing personal trainer.
I walk or ride my bike everywhere.
I have a vibrant yoga practice twice weekly. Backpacking/canoe tripping is my raison d'etre.

Having the strength and stamina to live my life my way is one of my greatest joys.

    Hello my friend! It always makes me smile emoticon when I see your name come up on my page or thread or having put up a blog. Did I tell you we did a portage trip of the Barron Canyon in Algonquin? OMG the bugs were bad. However it certainly was one of those "if you can do this you can do ANYTHING" experiences. A lot of work going around waterfalls but all worth it.

    I have finally reached 200 pounds which is a landmark for me. 23 years since I've seen that number. How are your DD's doing? My youngest is doing so well - finishes her program in December and has been accepted to the master's program at Waterloo. Middlest is home and struggling with anxiety/depression. Oldest finally got a diagnosis for her seizures last week and the doc things he can treat them! We are all over the map in some ways but I would sum up this year as being very good. Tremendous year here at the B&B. It's our 10th year so guests have gotten a little extra TLC. This morning was my last breakfast for the next month though. I have a couple of days to prepare for Nanowrimo and I'm not sure what that means so I'm going for a walk to figure it out. My book needs some rehabilitation as parts have gone missing in cyberspace... and I still have not submitted it for publishing. I think I know what to do... yet I don't.     Thanks for stopping by my blog. Made me smile. I feel... like I have made a small breakthrough. I'm trying to change my evening routines. Back to some old good habits like an evening swim or playing the harp, or a walk. The journey is long and it is so nice to have friends along with me. emoticon

    Thinking of you and hoping all is well with your kiddos. We did a portage trip of the Baron Canyon last month.... I always have your picture of you hiking in my mind when I'm doing stuff like that. I'm much more cautious now, knowing I am the "weakest link", however I keep progressing and keep working on my core and arm strength for trips like this. We are off to camp on Quadra Island (BC) and hopefully see some killer whales, do a bit of kayaking. Woo hoo!
