So I first joined SparkPeople back in August of 2010, through the fall I was on track and things were going well, then! Well we all know what happens then-life- I developed Plantars Fascitis in y foot which limited my running and I stopped working out.

In addition, the past year has been crazy, hectic. My husband went into business with a friend, my daughter graduated high school, we moved to Illinois, I began a PhD program, and we have been living in a RV. With all those changes I was in survival mode. Between the business, school, moving, etc.- I stopped putting myself first. Well I have now survived my first semester of my PhD program and realize that I spent way too much time sitting at a desk reading and writing.

So, I decided to take advantage of the University recreation facilities. I am back in a workout routine, off soda, and trying to plan healthy meals and snacks. ( Eating right will be easier when I move into a house in a few weeks).

I am at this again, I want it, and know I can do it! Heck if I am smart enough to be working on a PhD, then I am smart enough to figure out how to get myself in shape.

My Goals:
Pack healthy lunches and eat right sized portions.

Exercise 30 minutes a day.

Drink 8, 8 oz. glasses of water.

Give up COKE (the soda)!

My Program:
To begin I am packing my lunch. I teach and eating school lunches, or munching in the work room are not helping.

Trying to add a variety of exercise- treadmill, circuit training, zumba, etc.

Personal Information:
I've lived little biit of everywhere as a military child and wife. Currently we reside in central Missouri.

Currently I am applying to doctoral programs. I want to lose the weight so I am healthy and prepared to be successful as a student.

Other Information:
I'm a teacher which takes a lot of my time. When I have free time I prefer to spend it reading and scrapbooking.

thanks for the comment! i went through a handful of names before this one--DH only went in 8 months ago so we're still getting used to everything, i'd like him to go career, but that's more of his decision than it is mine. anyway--that's where the name came from.
i used to be really good about getting in "me" time, but sense he's been gone/come home, it's a lot harder to ask for it. i'm still trying, but it's all about readjusting to life together and stuff-i bet you understand! lol!
welcome to spark and congrats on the retirement! that's excellent!

    emoticon Greetings and emoticon

Wow, you've made amazing progress - what an inspiration for me!!

SparkPeople is a little bit like a emoticon in some ways - it's lots of fun and easy to make friends because we're all in this together. I like the way a HEALTHY LIFESTYLE is emphasized - it's about waaaaaay more than 'just' losing weight so you have definitely come to the right place!

There are tutorial videos under the HELP section that can show you how to use the features of the site.

If you haven't discovered The Spark book and/or the SparkDiet linked at the bottom of the START page, check them out - the program is simple but extremely effective. There is a TON of information on this site - so much it might even seem overwhelming but fortunately we don't have to 'digest' everything at once!

Take a few baby steps and then a few more and before you know it, you'll have completed a long journey - I hope you enjoy this community as much as I do - it teaches us how to make positive lifetime changes because that's the only thing that will work over time!

Girl, I have been so busy that I didn't even know you ran a 5K. WOW!!!!! I myself don't think I could run a 5k right now even if tried. That is soooooo fantastic that you accomplished this. You best be proud of yourself and all that you have accomplished so far on your journey. You are now my inspiration...Maybe someday I will be able to run a 5K too!!!!!
