"You have brains in your head. You have feet in your shoes. You can steer yourself in any direction you choose."
~Theadore Seuss Geisel

"A positive attitude may not solve all your problems, but it will annoy enough people to make it worth the effort"
~Herm Albright

Here’s the thing. I’m overweight and it’s doesn’t take a rocket scientist to figure out why. I eat because I’m stressed, sad, mad, bored, and happy (gotta love happy hour and the snacks to go with it!) . I love food.

I've been dieting for as long as...well my whole adult life and pretty much the majority of my childhood. I can remember the first time my mother put me on a diet. I was in 5th grade. I've yo-yo dieted ever since.

In my mid 20's I remember seeing a reflection of myself in a mirror and thinking, "Is that really me?". I was quite large. So, I started dieting was able to take off a lot of weight. I was actually thin. It was great. I felt great. And then I gained it back a couple years later.

When I turned 30, my sister and I were sending emails back and forth writing down how our day went and what we ate as a way of dieting. It worked. I got down to 128 pounds and kept the weight off for a couple of years until my sister got pregnant. And, you guessed it, I gained the weight back. Apparently I REALLY need support to be able to keep it off.

About 5 weeks ago (feb 29, 2008) I was at my highest weight ever. I about fell off the scale when I saw what it registered. It was bad enough to kick me in gear. I tried getting my sister involved again but she wasn't ready to start yet. I've managed to lose 10 pounds in the last 5 weeks on my own. I still have a long ways to go but it's a start. It hasn’t been nearly as easy without someone there for me. I found this site this morning and am really excited about it. The fact that it is free support is awesome. I don’t seem to do well with things I have to pay for. If I feel obligated because I’m paying for a diet program or paying for a gym membership then it makes me want to do it all the less. I don’t like the pressure so I fight it. So, you can see why this site would be ideal for me. :)
