2015 Update: SparkPeople has been a part of my success in health endeavors every time I've tried since 2011. It works. Now I have to work!

2011: Hello friends! I'm starting my journey of changing from within. A new friend who is a kindred spirit turned me on to SparkPeople by giving me a copy of the book. I started reading it one week before I joined the website. I can truly say I'm excited and that is a special and welcome feeling.

I hope to become more present, healthy, and energetic for myself and my own sanity but also for the people I serve. I have two Masters degrees. One is in Social Work and the other is in Human Sexuality Education. I work in the field of addictions.

I'm hoping to make some new friends, create motivation, lose weight, gain health, inspire others, turn off the negative self talk, and start hearing sweet sounds of success all around me.

Personal Information:
I have 2 cats and they are awesome! MEOW

I had knee surgery in the middle of 2013. I gained a lot (literally & figuratively). My knee has never been the same but I'm still blessed and I will figure out what works for me.

I had 3(yes 3) hand surgeries in 2014. I experience much less pain and I am very grateful!

Systemically I have some challenges but I'm determined to find my new best health and best me!

    OK girlfriend--how's it going? Let's keep it real. I've been struggling. I'm hoping to have a better week at the scale--my weigh-in day is Wednesday. I've worked out 3 times this week. The staff at my gym tried not to act surprised when they saw me!! Ugh!

    Thanks so much for the goodie & your encouraging words! It's exactly what I needed. We're both up from our lowest, and it's that accountability that will keep us in check! I needed a friend like you to give me a gentle reminder.

    I'm starting to revisit my healthy habits again, like working out & tracking. I feel better already just having made that decision for myself.

    We can...and are...doing that! Yay for us!

    Thanks for the goodie. I would lose "running" very losely to describe what i do hahaha. I have been able to see progress though from when i resparked in feb. I have definitely moved up from all walking, but dont feel quite like a runner yet. Slow and steady is my strategy and im not comparing myself to anyone else since that usually causes me to give up. How do u like running with a group??? Ive never done that. I did an amazing race style scavenger hunt with friends about a month ago and actually ran in public (without planning on it). That was the first time in ny life that i ran in public (and thru baltimore city dressed up like batman at that! Lol). Im slowly getting more confident with my athletic abilities but im not sure i cld run with a group just yet.
