For a long, long time I was kind of a chunky kid - not terribly overweight, just a little awkward (I'm sure the not-so-stylish glasses I started wearing in 2nd grade didn't help either!) There were many summers when I told myself I would lose weight before school started, convinced that I would become automatically popular when I was smaller. WRONG!

The hope I pinned on being thin unfortunately developed into some serious disordered eating in college. But because I got help early, this didn't last long. I ended up getting involved in several running clubs at school, and I realized pretty quickly that you can't starve yourself and run 8-11 miles per day. I got TINY and STRONG in college, and I felt spectacular.

After college, I was diagnosed with Hashimoto's Hypothyroidism. I started taking meds and immediately lost another 10 pounds. But then the stress of being a teacher set in. I left teaching and went back to graduate school. Unfortunately, the stress of teaching never left me(!), and I ended up on an antidepressant for 1.5 years: Hello, 15 extra pounds of weight!!!!

So, at this point, I've finished graduate school. I'm working at a job I love. I'm no longer taking the antidepressant, and I'm ready to drop the weight I gained on that. I want to be long, lean, and sexy again!

My Goals:
My dream goal is to get back to where I was in summer of 2007. I was ripped and staying between 132 and 135. I have lots of clothing still left from this time, and I'd like to fit into it. If I don't get there, which is possible because my life has changed A LOT since then (less time, more sedentary job, etc.), I'd at least like to see less fat and more muscle than I have now. I don't want to settle, but I do want to be realistic.

My Program:
I am TRYING to follow a regular eating plan that includes at least 5 servings of fruits and vegetables every day. I am burning at least 500 calories in my daily cardio workouts. I recently (3/2/09) added 30 Day Shred to my daily routine. (You can read my blog entries to find out how I feel about that!!) Feelings aside, I'm hoping it helps me see those muscles I've been missing so much!!

Personal Information:
I was born and raised in Illinois, where I attended the U of I for college. Then, I taught high school English for three years in rural North Carolina before getting my MSW at UNC-Chapel Hill. My mom has since joined me in NC, so I think I'll stick around for a while. Glad to be here!

    Hi there! Thank you so much for making me a friend on here. I didn't get into the community part of Sparkpeople when I was on here for 3 months last summer, and I'm thinking that is why I ultimately failed. I'm doing things different this time! :)

    My son was just accepted into the james scholars program in the engineering college.. we were happy for him.. now if the darn school will give him just a LITTLE bit of academic money.. we will be SO SO thrilled.. but probably we will be given more LOANS.. UGH!
    how have you been? I enjoyed your photos.. I FINALLY got some up of me, our sweet dog and one of my kids.. hope to get more up..
