Hi my name is Sylvia, welcome to my page!

***UPDATE Dec. 2018***

It has been forever, and I mean like really forever. I was recently thinking about SparkPeople and figured I would post an update in case any of my old friends remembered me.

I finally had success in my journey in 2015. I lost 50 lbs and cured my Thyroid illness and my PCOS. Hubby and I had been trying to get pregnant for 5 years and it was a horribly depressing time in my life. In December 2015 I found out I was pregnant with Luke, my miracle baby. He was born in July 2016. My life was complete and hubby and I planned on trying for baby #2 after Luke turned 1. We figured it would take a while since it took 5 years the first time....wrong! When Luke was 9 months old I found out that I was pregnant again! Our spunky little Mia was born in January 2018 and I have recently gotten back into running and have dropped 22 lbs of baby weight. I still have about 20 lbs to go, but I could not be happier.

Thank you to everyone who encouraged me during the beginning stages of my journey and for being there when I was going through all the medical confusion. Today I am medication free and I live a healthy lifestyle with my two babies, hubby, and our 3 dogs!

Some people are naturally athletic and enjoy setting goals that will make their lives healthier. I was not one of these people. At 24 years old, I was overweight and a prime example of what a sedentary lifestyle looks like. I felt like a prisoner in my own body and tried every possible weight loss method. I would be successful for a few months, but then I would slip back into my old habits; always gaining all the weight back, and more.

This was until about 2 years ago...I was roaming the web looking for information about weight loss and happened to come across a PBS program about how NOVA trained 12 sedentary non-athletes to run the Boston Marathon. I watched this program and was in awe of what i saw. I had always wanted to be an athlete, but never had the motivation or willpower to do things that made me sweaty or out of breath. Needless to say, I always watched from the sidelines. However, this program inspired me. I looked at it and knew that I could be a runner too if i just believed in myself. That moment I turned to my husband and told him that I was going to become a runner. His reply was supportive, but I can guarantee that the thought running through his head was, "Sure sweetie, whatever you say."

I decided that a marathon was a little out of my league, but a 5K race might be the perfect motivator to get my butt into shape. So, I signed up for a 5K race which would be on May 1, 2010, and decided that I would start training the very next day. Over the next few months I managed to build up my endurance from not being able to jog half a mile, to being able to jog 3.1 miles without stopping. Not only did I start losing a little bit of weight, but I started getting addicted to running. It's like a light switched on in my head and then couldn't be switched off. Running was all that I thought about, and I took any opportunity to lace up my running shoes and hit the pavement.

On May 1,2010 I ran my first 5K race. My husband, mother, father, and younger brother were there cheering me on at the start and finish lines. The moment I crossed the finish line something amazing happened. I realized that not only had I achieved my goal, but I had inspired myself to keep going and to get better. After my race I decided that running definitely has a place in my new healthy lifestyle, and I set another run a marathon before i'm 28.

On December 5, 2010 i ran my first half-marathon. It was the hardest thing I’ve ever done, but i pushed through even after getting injured at the 10K mark. During the race i was wondering why i had chosen to do this, but the moment i crossed that finish line i knew why. Immediately i started talking about how next time i'm not going to get injured and I’ll do way better.

My friends and family think I’m crazy but I know that it's just because they haven't experienced the high of crossing that finish line and knowing that you, and only you, made that happen. Through my page, I hope inspire others to reach for their goals, no matter how long they take to accomplish.

*Update* Due to some medical issues, and a lack of motivation, i regressed quite a bit in both my running and my healthy lifestyle. Anyone who said this journey was easy lied. However, as the saying goes, "It’s not the number of times you fall, but how you pick yourself up."

On February 14, 2012 i was diagnosed with Hashimoto's Disease and shortly after I was also diagnosed with PCOS. I went from being a girl who didn't even take vitamins, to a girl who is now chained to medication. My only comfort in all of this is knowing that I'm starting to feel better, and that Hubby and i will hopefully be able to get pregnant now. However, i need to lose weight and be healthy before we can have a baby.

My goal is to lose as much weight as possible before Hubby and i get pregnant. I don't know when that will happen, or how much i will lose, but that's the goal!

I'm also on the Spark Ability team! I just rejoined after a plateau on vacation. I started at 175 myself and am now 153, looking to to a goal of around 135. I just wanted to share with you my goals because they are kind of similar.

You can do anything you can put your mind to. I completely relate to what your saying above.

Just keep it up, win one day at a time and you'll start seeing results!

Please feel free to add me as a friend-
