I woke up this morning feeling pretty good. PT went well but when I got home I ate like I had a tape worm. I had an all or nothing attitude and continued to over eat. But, I am not going to let one bad day prevent me from trying again tomorrow. Tomorrow I'll wake up rested with new strength and new thoughts - for a better day.

That is a favorite saying of my mom and husband. Actions speak louder than words. It's easy to say I'm going to do this or I'm going to do that but for those of us who tend to procrastinate it takes us awhile to get started. The saying is true though or at least it has been for me. I know as I start something and don't tell everyone I get more encouragement and support when people start to see a change. The support and encouragement then becomes a motivator. So now I'm going to sign off and take action on some things I need to get done.

My sciatica and osteoarthritis are my only limitations. Discipline, and mindset are my weaknesses. I know my weight loss journey is a process and life style change. I usually focus on the things I didn't do or should've done - that's mindset and can sabotage my end goal. I'm 68 so I know these changes will take time. This coming week I will focus on my potential, and concentrate on what I did well during the day; when I showed discipline and a positive mindset. DISCIPLINE, DISCIPLINE, DISCIPLINE.

With my sciatica issues interfering with my fitness plan during this new challenge I must change my mindset instead of letting it get the best of me. I'm frustrated but must rethink what I can do to be successful until I'm able to get back on track. Let your current mindset be positive and move you forward.

I've come to realize that I will have both good and bad days in my weight loss journey. I have also come to realize that there is no quick fix and this will take some time. I will have ups and downs. Instead of beating myself up on the bad days I reflect on where I could improve and what I can do so I will be more consistent. As long as I learn along the way I will be able to lose weight, develop some good habits and healthy lifestyle changes.

Over the holidays I was able to spend time with my family whom I don't get to see on a regular basis because of travel distance. As difficult as it is to have those you love so far away I found contentment in seeing how they've grown and become independent (wings to fly). Family and family traditions are very important so getting together and spending quality time together is always such as blessing and when it's time to say good-bye we focus on the next time we'll be together. (roots to come back and reasons to stay).
Cherish the moments you spend with your loved ones.

My problem is that I don't like to venture outside my comfort zone too much. I sometimes have the 'all or nothing' attitude and need to remind myself that going slowly and taking small steps will give me confidence and a greater sense of self worth. Those little steps I take today may lead to bigger steps tomorrow. So, step outside your comfort zone and let the good come in.

I think faith goes along with hope. Hope is for the future and faith is for the present. When I rely on my faith everything seems more hopeful and I can be more positive. Positivity wins over negativity and I can be more encouraging to others. Win, Win - we all have a better day and become better versions of ourselves.

My Goals:
I have 50+ pounds to lose and am determined to stick with it. I joined Spark People with the mindset that I would keep myself accountable. I will set S.M.A.R.T. goals to achieve the best version of myself by adopting a lifestyle that includes a fitness and nutrition program. My goal is to become the best version of myself.

Grow Young Fitness (an online fitness program for seniors)
Gym membership
BL/BLC challenges



Personal Information:
I am happily married to my high school sweetheart. We have a son and daughter and 4 grandchildren. We are both homebodies because we moved a lot when we were first married. We lived in Grand Rapids, Michigan; Middletown, Ohio; Chicago Illinois; Beulah, North Dakota; Yuma, Arizona; and Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.
I am a retired elementary school teacher. I loved teaching and love retirement. I enjoy cooking, reading, gardening and spending time with friends and family. I love sunshine and the rocky ocean shores.


Other Information:
When I was little I used to cry because I was so skinny. HA! Until I was in my 40s I could eat as much and whatever I wanted without gaining weight. Then, my metabolism slowed down. Yikes. I had never had to control my eating before. I tried losing weight on my own but until this past March (2018) when I joined Spark People did I actually get serious about it. I tried some spark and calendar challenges but it wasn't until I joined the White Rabbit BLC37 team that I actually felt I would have the support and encouragement to be held accountable in developing a healthy lifestyle change.
