Welcome to Spark Unfluffy's. I think maybe we should become buddies. Grin. Seems like we are both trying to do the same thing. Whatcha think? If you have msngr or yahoo sparkmail me your username and I will add you!
You have already taken the first step towards that damned light switch, by joining SparkPeople. I joined on 2nd August, I had 21lbs to lose. In the beginning it was really slow going, because I didn't do a great deal of exercise. 6 Weeks ago I joined the gym that my husband has been going to for over a year, so we go together. Everything since then has just fallen into place, I have lost 12lbs, and dropped two dress sizes, my body shape has changed so much that I am wearing a size I haven't been in since before my eldest daughter was born, she's 19!
Portion control is very, very important, I invested in a really good set of kitchen scales. I drink as much water as I can 2.5 litres is a good amount, more if I can tolerate it. I stay towards the lower end of my calorie range as set by Spark, and go to the gym five times a week. This started off as 3 x, but now I'm addicted to the exercising. I now know that I have to have an exercise regime that I can tolerate for years to come, so I am realistic about my abilities. I do push myself burning an average 400 cals on 3 gym visits doing cardio, strength training, then cardio again. On the other two days I just do Elliptical for 35 minutes burning 257 cals on average.
You don't need to deprive yourself of anything, as long as you log it, and don't go over your highest calorie allowance. From the recipes on Spark you can make meals interesting and low cal/fat.
I don't follow the meal plan on Spark, because I live in Spain, and find it easier just to use the tracker for my own foods.
I would set yourself mini goals, maybe to lose X by Feb 07, breaking down your total into more manageable amounts, then you mighn't feel defeated before you even start.
