Hello, I'm now 71 and still seriously obese, despite having joined SparkPeople in December 2008. I was diagnosed with angina, had 2 stents fitted in 2 blocked coronary arteries exactly one week, almost to the minute, after 9-11.
It was overcast and raining outside St Thomas's Hospital in London, which is just across the river Thames from the Houses of Parliament and Big Ben. I remember wondering if or when terrorists might try to do to the UK what they had done to the USA.
I started life quite skinny, had peritonitis at a year old. Had my tonsils removed aged 4 and a half, and began to grow fatter! I looked like the Michelin Man by age 8. It didn't help that my parents had opened a sweet shop, and we lived there just a few yards from a fish and chip shop! Lost a lot of it in my late teens, stayed stable at about 170 pounds till age 30.
The trouble is, I love the taste of all my favourite foods, fries, roast potatoes, chocolate, cakes, biscuits, cookies. And I really hate the taste of good stuff like salads, all those chewy, unswallowable leaves, yuck!!
BUT, I have to change or die early, so not much choice there. So I am really pleased that Fate has led me to this SparkPeople site. Now I need to find some willpower to eat a bit less of everything!!
I actually found that salad isn't so bad to eat, once sprinkled with some Nando's medium peri peri sauce! I've been trying to eat a little less, snack a little less, and do a bit more moving about - a bit of gardening, parking at the far end of the supermarket carpark, evry little helps.

Thanks for the support Jim, we appreciate it! We'll try to make this happen - even though we're a huge website, SparkPeople is still a really small company moving forward one step at a time. Hopefully we'll be able to build more of a presence in the UK soon!

    SparkCheers!

emoticon hello and welcome to "Outsmarting Temptation".
You can do this! One day at a time!

*To accomplish great things, we must not only act, but also dream, not only plan, but also believe! *

*When you believe in yourself the possibilities are endless... *

***Mark 14:38 Watch ye and pray, lest ye enter into temptation. The spirit truly is ready, but the flesh is weak.
1Co 10:13 There hath no temptation taken you but such as is common to man: but God is faithful, who will not suffer you to be tempted above that ye are able; but will with the temptation also make a way to escape, that ye may be able to bear it.***
