Why I joined SP...

Monday, February 18, 2008

I just posted this on one of my teams and thought I'd put it here to have.

I joined 2 years ago when I had to buy size 12 pants and it freaked me out. I also joined because my elderly mother was living with me. Now, you probably ask what does that have to do with joining SP but it has a lot to do with it. My mom has numerous health problems including diabetes and several complications due to that disease. She has never eaten particularly well in her life, loving fried foods and sweets, and has never exercised. Her quality of life is greatly diminished!

So, as I sat in my home eating the sweets, etc. just like her, and expanding into larger pants, I saw what the future held for me and I knew I had to make a change! I had joined the Y and had started working out already but I was still gaining weight. I figured it was what I was eating so I did a Google search for online calorie tracker and landed on SP. It was too good to be true and I kept waiting for the "catch" but there was no catch!

6 months later I had lost 30 pounds and gotten into pretty good shape. In the next 6 months I lost another 5 pounds and started running I maintained that for another 6 months and then my work became very stressful, requiring me to work many more hours than normal and in the next 6 months I gained back 15 pounds. I knew that had to stop when, again, I had to buy bigger pants!

So I got back into the SP habit and have lost almost 10 of those unwanted 15 pounds and just have a few more to go.

Other great things that have happened to me are that my cholesterol dropped by 60 points! I also started teaching at the Y where I was working out - and it's just been a life changing journey for me.

So that's why I joined SP!

I found SP through Google, too! Hooray for Google!! My mom died of cancer in 2002. The only treatment that would prolong her life was impossible because she was morbidly obese. The oncologist told us if Mom had the open heart surgery and her kidney removed, she would probably never recover from the surgery. That is/was a huge motivation for me to maintain a healthy lifestyle and weight!!

My Mom is exactly like yours, and that is also a great motivation for me not to follow her steps. CONGRATULATIONS on your weight loss and on lowering your cholesterol! Keep up the good work! :-)
