It's crazy stuff...

Tuesday, July 22, 2008

OK, this heat is crazy stuff. I get up at 4 on long run day, get soaked, need body glide where I've never needed body glide before, and the guy on the corner who sells newspapers during the night looks at me like I'm insane (as he puffs away on his cigarettes and downs Pepsi like it's Budweiser). But, every Sunday for 18 weeks, I do my long run.

This is the first time I've done the high miles during the heat. It's crazy stuff. I'm running a 10K on the day I'm supposed to do a 16 miler. Duh, it never occurred to me to switch this Sunday with Next Sunday, and do the 16 miler this weekend (Thanks HOPERY, for that advice - why didn't I think of it)

I've been hitting the strength training at the Y. I'm starting to see a difference in my overall physique, and although I haven't lost scale weight, my face is looking leaner - like the face of someone with fairly low body fat %.

I start getting ready for the school year the first week of August, and hit the beginning of school at the same time as the "monster month" of marathon training - the 5 week period that contains 3 X 50 mile weeks, alternated with 2 X 30 mile weeks. There will be some sleep deprivation, I'm sure. But I've done it before for the Flying Pig.

The question remains, how fast can I go on October 19 It's crazy stuff to think about it, but I feel so much stronger now. Maybe it's because I have 18 months of marathon training under my belt already this year.

Hey, it's all crazy stuff.

I didn't realize my comment helped you. Have you done the 10 k yet? How was it? Alos, thanks for the reply to my post (and the goodie). It is hard to not know what is going to happen when, and to maybe be moving to a place where I don't know a soul. Well, happy running! I'd better get to sleep-I run 12 in the morning. (don't know why, but 12 seems so far tonight)

Wow! What an awesome blog! You are one of the most dedicated runners I have ever come across. lol! Running at 4am! wow! As for the very unfit newspaper guy, II'm surprised he hasn't been inspired by you as yet! :-)

Good luck with all your training. You are amazing. Do you work in a school? I do, as a teaching assistant. However, my working hours drop in September but I'm hoping to head off to the gym on four afternoons a week to make up for it. lol!

I hope you are enjoying the summer. Hugs xxx
