Amish Friendship Bread? I never heard of it before, but 10 days ago, on FREECYCLE there was a post, and I responded. Figured the kids and I were on our vacation and needed to get into something fun... Went to pick up my "starter" bag. Its a bag of a concotion of milk, flour, and sugar in a gallon zip lock baggie. So, each day you let the air bubble out of the bag and you mush it together, kinda like mixing it but keeping it in the bag. On day six, you add milk, sugar & flour, keep letting the air bubbles out each day and mushing it each day. On day 10 you add vanilla extract, instant pudding mix, sugar, flour, eggs, baking soda, baking powder, cinnamon, etc. Well, after milk sitting out for 10 days I was really worried about it going bad, but it was wonderful. Now I have 4 starter bags, and 2 loaves of bread. I'm working on giving the starter bags to my friends now and will have another batch in 10 days!
It's not really bad for you, but not really good either. It's a sweet cake type of bread, but it was fun for the kids to watch the bubbles grow each day, and to mush it each day and to help add ingredients and bake it. We'll do it again a few times, until we run out of friends to share it with.
