Drive-in Theater

Sunday, October 05, 2008

I use to love the drive in when I was a kid. Then I found one to take my children too and I believe they also loved it. It use to be 60 minutes away from where we lived and by midnight it was a horrible drive home.

Well where I live now it is about 20 minutes away. But my new husband hates the drive-in. But since he hadn't taken me all season he said he would last night. We took both dogs and put the back seat of the SUV down. He had blankets and pillows and it was so much fun.

The puppy barked a few times in her howling way, but all in all it was an awesome fun time. We all snuggled in the back! We had the window open so it was a little brisk. I think he might like the drive-in now with the new car.

What Fun! We have a drive-in about 30 minutes from our house, but haven't been in several years. We need to do that again.

We have a drive in where I live. What I like about it is the way we get the sound....no stupid little boxes to hang on the window now days. We pick it up over the radio and it comes in thru the stereo system in the car....cool beans!

The Christian Drive-In closest to us is only $10/carload and it is fun... Always excellent movies for families, but I am sure it is closed by now. Just open for the summer when there are lots of cottagers around. We are in Ontario Canada just outside Ottawa, and there has already been ice on the windows a couple of mornings. I used to laugh because my husband had a drive-in in the town he grew up in... Dawson Creek BC. The problem? Well when I lived there one summer it only got dark at 11:00 pm and got light again at 1:00 am. ! I never saw it advertising so I assume it never became popular have so few hours of daylight. In winter it would be awesome up there but then you get cold and northern lights distracting you...

That is GREAT Ruth!!! We have a drive in about 10 minutes from home. I haven't been there too much since they no longer offer the one price per car load anymore. And this year, we are unable to bring our own popcorn....oh well! We will settle for the home movies ~ it is cheaper...Maybe we'll do that next year ~ just hubby and me!

Oh boy..this sounds GREAT! I used to love the Drive-in movies, too! It would be great to go and take our dogs. There used to be one an hour away from us here, but it closed a few years ago. Sounds like you had a fun night.

My husband and I used to put the kids in the car and they would sleep through the movies. There were always double features sometimes triple. By the time the kids were around 10 all the drive-ins in northern Minnesota had closed. I don't even think there are any in the cities anymore. Land is too expensive to have a theater on it.

Hope your husband learns to enjoy them. They are so much nicer than the indoor. Kids do not have to be perfectly quiet and neither do you.

Wow. What a walk down memory lane. I haven't been to a drive in forever. I don't think there are any more around here. They closed the one here years ago. The last time I went was with my hubby and we got a speaker with no sound, so instead of moving, he grabbed the one on the other side and turned it on. It didn't reach the window but we could hear it anyway. The only thing I hated was the bathroom was far away. Sounds like you has a wonderful time and made a new memory. Drive inns are going away and that's too bad. They are kind of a part of history.
