Travelling for the first time after getting back on SP... HELP!

Sunday, November 02, 2008

I'm going to DC for a conference. There are 3 evening functions and two luncheons that I'll be attending where they just plop food down in front of you on a plate. Food someone else has selected. Food that's usually REALLY good, too. Oh my!

I'll be staying in a hotel that's a mile from the conference site, so I will be getting in two miles a day walking back and forth. Excited about that. And it's going from one side of DuPont Circle to the other, so that's a really fun and interesting walk, too. I'll be at the mercy of whatever they have in the hotel fitness center for strength training.

I'll have my laptop, so I WILL be able to log in on SP. Thank goodness for that! I've lost 4.8 pounds since the 17th of October. I know I could gain every bit of that back in the next three days, so I'm a little fearful. (Did I mention alcohol will be flowing, too?) So please, keep me in your thoughts and prayers... and any encouraging words you can send my way will be greatly appreciated (and needed!)

Thanks, ya'll!

Pick and chose from what's on your plate wisely, 1/2 portions work well and if all else fails, pack a few healthy snack items in your purse for emergencies.

You've won half the battle by planning, can't wait to see the blogs about how successful you were when you get back!

My advice is to eat slowly if you have to eat what's put in front of you; that way you may consume less. Good luck!!!

JUST A REMINDER JUST BECAUSE IT IS THERE DOESN'T MEAN YOU HAVE TO EAT IT OR DRINK IT YOU CAN ALWAYS EAT LATER OR FIND THE HEALTHY CHOICE ON THE PLATE AND OPT FOR CLUB SODA OR SPARKLING WATER TO DRINK. AFTER ALL THE HARD WORK PLEASE KEEP THESE THINGS IN MIND. MAKE HEALTHY CHOICES, THAT IS WHAT THE LIFESTYLE CHANGE IS ALL ABOUT. SANDY

I agree with BRIE27. Figure out how much of that lunch would be healthy and then only eat that much. That's how I get through the holidays

At least you're going already knowing what to expect. If it were me, I'd tell myself things like 'only eat half of what they give me', or 'just 2 bites of this and that', ect.......it's all about portions. You know you're going to exercise, so you'll be able to have what you want in moderation and work it off in the gym. You probably don't have anything to worry about. It'll be done before you know it and you'll be back home moving on with things! Good luck!

I'd say be careful, but you already know the challenges you'll be facing so you are a step ahead! See if your hotel has a gym and challenge yourself to 15 minutes on the treadmill followed by a swim or sauna or a restful soothing session in the hot tub.

Plan ahead to burn some extra calories and ... challenge yourself!

But most of all... have fun!
