Having fun with planning for the holidays

Well... we're facing the feasting frenzy festival time of year. Sweet lil folks bringing in sweet lil treats for their sweet lil co-workers. Party after party after party. Family gatherings that have become a bit more complicated with our extended half and step and natural and adopted families. But, I'm ready. I've been plotting and planning so that I'm ready for what we are all about to face.
My first assault will take place on Monday. We are having a potluck at work. I'm taking greenbean casserole using a modified recipe that is totally guiltfree. I know I can have a big portion of that and little "tastes" of other things and stay within my caloric comfort zone without offending anyone or pleading "I'm on a diet". Then, there's Thanksgiving. I've got two Thanksgiving dinners to go to. Fortunately, at both of them, I know there are going to be lots of vegetables... so I can eat those and only have small portions of the things that are more calorie dense (or just pass on them.) Then, there is the Christmas Party for my office at my house. That's the most fun of all.
I've gotten out my cookbooks, scoured the sparkrecipes, and created a menu that will have a great deal of variety and all is healthy. We are having tapas (finger foods) and desserts. I am going to make the most of it (most of the recipes are of the make ahead variety) the day before. Others are going to bring things, but since I know there is going to be plenty that is healthy, I can focus on that.
So, once again, planning is the key to success.
To top it off, we are having a challenge at work to not gain weight over the holidays. I work at St. Jude Children's Research Hospital and they are constantly promoting good health for us (it's a WONDERFUL place to work!) So, the weigh in is on Monday. Then we weigh in again in January. There is a prize for everyone that maintains their current weight or loses. I am going to encourage everyone in my department to take place in that... and I'll do it, too.
So... planning AND an extra incentive AND all the encouragement I receive on here from my million-fold Sparkfamily ought to keep me on the straight and narrow!!!
Good wishes to all of you as you face the feeding frenzy!!!
