Rat on a Wheel!
Tuesday, November 25, 2008
Oh my gosh....I finally understand why the little hamsters and rats love to run in those dumb, seemingly boring, never go anywhere, wheels! When I first started walking on the treadmills, I hated it. My legs would feel like jello when I got off the darn thing, I would be extremely dizzy, and overall, I found it immensely boring. Well, a little more than a year later, and I love the treadmill! I still would rather walk outside in the fresh air, but I hate to run outside. The timer, and the distance counter are my best friend!
Last week, I ran on the treadmill for 6 minutes before having to walk due to my legs hurting. Today, my goal was to add 30 seconds...well, I got to 6.5 mins, and decided, what's another 30 seconds, so I kept going...before I knew it, I reached 10 minutes! I was so amazed with myself. A year ago my asthma was so bad that I could not even run for 20 seconds without needing my rescue inhaler.
I now take only magnesium for my asthma and gave up on the steroid preventive inhalers and am able to do so much more! I am so proud of myself. I got kicked out of the Army 13 years ago because of failure to run.....I am now doing something that I could never do before and it is amazing....something I never thought that I could do in a million years. While I will probably never be able to run a marathon, I do have a goal to run a 5K next summer. As of right now, I will not put time constraints on myself, just so long as I keep running for the entire 5K I will be content with finishing.
