In Pain

Monday, February 23, 2009

Went to the doctor on Sunday with back and leg pain. Found out I hurt my back and gotta take it easy for a couple days. There goes my great start. I'm sitting here now trying to figure out how I can get at least a little bit of exercise in without overdoing it and hurting myself further.

If anyone has any ideas stop by and let me know.

First of all - take the rest that your doctor suggested. You don't want to be in worse pain because you tried to exercise. Maybe eat at the lower end of your calorie range for the next few days. Are you going to have follow up appt to get the OK to exercise? I am sure your dr would have suggestions on what exercises would be OK.

Second - Don't give up. This is a bump in the road - not an excuse to quit. You will get through it!

    Take care of yourself!

Sorry to hear about your back, it's such a bummer when it happens just as you are starting to rev things up.

What did your doctor say about walking? My back will go out and into spasms every now and then but I have found that after about 2-3 days "resting" doesn't really help anymore. what works best for me is daily gentle stretches and walking at a speed that is comfortable and for a distance that is moderate. It's not the time to decide to lengthen your walk or pick up the speed, but you don't want to lay around for too many days either. Everone's back is different so you should listen to your doctors orders.
