What Goes Around

Monday, March 02, 2009

The ideal title for this blog post is kicking around somewhere in the cobwebbed corners of my brain. The one I landed on (see above) fits, but not perfectly. Basically, I am here to simultaneously celebrate a small victory and flog myself for a sin committed.

Victory: I did Day 1 of 30-Day Shred today. I thought I was pretty kick-ass, pretty hardcore because I can run 6 miles at a time without batting an eye (did it this morning). But - uh - that Jillian Michaels is quite literally insane. I just did Level One today, and there was no way I could do all those push ups - even of the girly variety. Still, I did it, and for that, I'm PROUD!

Here's the sin: Even with the chocolate eggs I bought yesterday, I had been super careful about sticking within my calorie limit, and I was fine up until 7:30pm-ish. See, I'm dog sitting at my mom's house this week. (I have purposely stayed away from my mom's house since starting Sparkpeople because she ALWAYS, ALWAYS has yummy, homemade treats sitting around. Tonight was no different.) Before I knew it, I was eating several squares of some kind of gooey, chocolaty, flaky oatmeal bars. I'm sure they're vegan and therefore "healthy," but vegan does not mean calorie-free by any means. Ho-hum. The worst part: I have NO idea how many calories these little buggers contained, so I logged 4 chocolate chip cookies and watched my calories soar to 2,037! Could be more, could be less. I'll never know.

So, instead of getting a head start by doing the Shred workout in addition to my run this morning, I have probably just barely broken even. Grrr... But I realize that this is all part of the process. What's success without failure, right?

Hey, you splurged....thats not so bad as long as its not an everyday thing....I bet they tasted great! Anyways, it was better to sucumb to the healthy treats than the not so healthy ones and having done so, you probably won't again for a good while. If you had any impulses you fought them off with yummy HEALTHY treats. Oatmeal does WONDERS for your skin. Just think of all the positives and go from there, tomorrow is a day away. Just start fresh. Good luck!
