Quick Public Service Announcement

I offer this little reminder, not as an admonishment, but as a plea to all you brilliant Sparkers out there:

LOSE, as in "I want to lose 10 pounds this month," has just one O. Just one.

LOOSE, as in "Now that's I've lost 10 pounds, my old pants are loose," has two OOs.

As a former English teacher and a long-time grammar/spelling/mechanics stickler, I just had to get that off my chest. Do with it what you will!

Why doesn't spell check know what I mean, rather than what I write. I bet then instead of than bugs you to. Do you read William Safire's column "On Language" in the Sunday New York Times Magazine? I do.
