The Pendant

Monday, March 09, 2009

She would walk the beach, just to see her footprints
in the sand.
To feel the coolness under her feet.
Splash the waters edge with her hands.
Look for seashells. For bright shiny rocks.
She would make fine jewelry, pendants to give.
Wrapped inside a box, a ribbon to tie, made her
feel so warm inside.

She would walk the beach, just to see her footprints
in the sand.
To feel the coolness under her feet.
As she gazes out over the waters, she remembers
a memory she stored.
Was so long ago, to beautiful for words.
She last walked the beach with a young man by her side.
He asked her to be his bride.

He then gave her a pendant so precious and dear.
To bind the oath of marriage when the day is near.

She has worn that very pendant from the first day they
met.
Her wedding gown is put away in her treasure chest.

A picture is hung of them nearby.
Dressed for the occasion of man and wife.
They are both living a happy life.

She walks the beach to see her footsteps in the
sand.
With him by her side, hand and hand.
