Passages--Losing a friend and family member

Saturday, March 28, 2009

Today our family lost someone very important, our dear golden retriever Daisy. Her sixteen years with us went way too quickly. The hole in our hearts is huge. She gave so much and asked so little. I am hoping in a few days we can remember all the wonderful moments we had together without crying. At the moment all I can do is try to avoid thinking about her, it's just too sad. I hope she is at peace and knows how much we love her.

I'm so sorry to hear of your loss. I know exactly what you're going through - we lost 2 of our babies a few years ago. One was almost 16 and the other 14 (both kitties.) I still miss them terribly.

A website that helped me a lot was www.petloss.com
The Story of the Rainbow Bridge is listed on the site and you can submit a tribute for your pet. They also have a Pet Loss Candle Ceremony on Monday nights that you can participate in. (We did and it did help us.)

Warning: if you haven't heard it before: The Rainbow Bridge Story IS sad -- but happy too.

I hope this helps. My kitties and I are sending you good thoughts, purrs, and 'head smashers'...

Oh Budviolet, I'm so sorry. Our pets give us so much love and joy and ask so little of us. It truly does leave a hole in our lives when they pass. I too hope our pets are in heaven wagging their tails and purring away.

Daisy was lucky to have a family as loving as yours. She lived a long, happy life, and that should be celebrated. Hang in there, you're in my thoughts.

I am so sorry to read this. i too had lost my best friend in February. He slept with me, he followed me every step of his life. He really did live for me. We had him cremated and he now sleeps on my nightstand. It is so hard, I want to check his dish or open the doggy door. Then I stop and think, in the end he was blind, scared, stiff, he had no quality of life. He would get lost and cry. We had to stop thinking of me and think what was best for him. I know he is in heaven making friends and waiting for me. I just really, really feel for you emoticon emoticon Sharron
