My First 5K.... My Week in Cardio.... My New Job!!!!!

Saturday, April 18, 2009

We did it, 5K and then some. We walked to it and from it from my friend's apartment. We didn't time ourselves, but we did have a good walk and the 2 hills were challenging but overall the pace of the walk was very slow so we ended up walking the "sidelines" alot of the trip. I could do it again. I could do it each day really, it wasn't as bad as I thought it was going to be, that's for sure. I'm just happy that my knee held up.

I did do Zumba on Monday, started Curves on Wednesday, did walking most days this week, and did Curves on Friday. My left knee hurts when I'm resting and I can't seem to get comfortable. When I'm walking, no pain, when I'm doing the strength training, some pain... right now, I figure I will keep an eye on it and see what happens.

This Friday was also my first day as a substitute teacher at Molly's school. I had gone in one other day to "observe" but hadn't really done much other than follow along with what they do, yesterday, I got to do it. I enjoyed it, then came the "interview" for the position next year. It's part time, Monday - Friday, it's 8:30 - 12:00, it's not much more than minimum wage, but it's paid holidays, and summers off (unpaid of course). It was more like a talk with a friend. We chit chatted about the specifics of the job more than anything and it ended with a job offer, contingent on my background checks, and my approval. Both of which are already as good as gold! So, I will be back to work while Molly is in Kindergarten and will still have my afternoons off from 12 - 2:30 for the most part ;-)

I am thankful to God, for my friends, for my family, for these beautiful opportunities and for the chance to make a difference in children's lives. I am hopeful that we can move and settle back into a new home before the school year and am eager to see what comes of this upcoming year!

Congrats on your first 5K and on your new job!!! That's really exciting!

You are doing so well with exercise, you're starting to become sort of a role model to me in that way. (I know you don't want to hear that, but just take it as a compliment!) I'm determined that this week is going to be a great work-out week for me, and I know it will be another great one for you. Just take care of that knee, ok?

Such a busy week....and such exciting things happening! It is wonderful that you'll have a part time job and still have afternoons off. I can agree with you on the 5k....the pace was rather slow and didn't seem challenging, but oh well....it was fun.
