Back in the race...

Thursday, April 23, 2009

Last December I ran a Half Marathon. I had been sick with an upper respiratory infection that lasted until March of 2009. That race was very difficult, but I finished it. Then my daughter's hours changed at work and I found myself taking care of my 2 year old granddaughter 7 days a week. I will admit that at 49 years old taking care of a 2 year old is very exhausting especially when you are working a 50 hour management position. So, something had to give and unfortunately, I let the running go. As a result, I have gained 26 lbs and a full dress size. Don't misunderstand me...I know that letting the exercise and proper nutrition go was not a helpful thing. It actually was the worst thing I could have done as I then had no means of relieving my stress. I have learned that the best thing to do when you find yourself in a crunch is to make self health the top priority. After all, if I am not healthy and strong, then who will take care of my family and employees? Finally, the daughter and granddaughter moved into their own home on 4/21/2009. Now I have my nights and one day on the weekend back. I have regained my focus and now must regain my healthy habits! I actually dream of running! I know that it will take at least two weeks before I am back into the regular routine and have created new habits again. The first step is always the hardest but in order to enjoy the journey, it must be taken.
