Jumped the week's first hurdle

Tuesday, May 05, 2009

I have two spots in every week that tend to derail my exercise program. Tuesday is the first one. This is the day that I work late, then I go to Bible study. Even though I get home at about 8:15p, that isn't what really makes me skip exercise. It's The Hill.

The Hill is the walk that I have to take from Bible study. Most people wouldn't think it was a big deal. The Bible study group meets at my neighbor's house and it only takes me about three minutes to walk from there to my house. However, I am in such poor physical shape that I have trouble catching my breath by the time I get home. After that I am in NO mood to exercise.

Today, I overcame this hurdle by accident. On the drive home, I was trying to come up with good excuses to skip exercising. When I was facing The Hill, I'd pretty much expected to collapse when I got to my house. Then I remembered that I needed to stop at another neighbor's house, someone who lives across from me. That short stop enabled me to catch my breath, so when I walked over to my house I was ready to work out. I'm not saying I was excited, but at least I only had my usual dislike of exercise to get over.
