4 Miles & a Scooter

Monday, June 01, 2009

Last night my dd and I went on a great run! She's 7 - LOL. She got on her little push scooter and followed me on my 4 mile run. It was great as she could scooter along and not get too tired. She had a couple of spills and we had to work out the whole water/walking break thing but all and all I had a great time with her on my run.

We started out with a 5 minute walk/warm up where Nicole proceeded to wipe out right at 5 minutes! So the warm up was a tad longer :) Then, we started to run.

She says to me "I thought you were going to run?"
I reply "I am."
She says "You're jogging."
I say "I know."
She says "I thought you were going to run?"
I said "I am - I'm jogging."
She looks very confused...
I huff out "It's the same thing... I've got 4 miles to go I can't go too fast."

That seemed to mollify her. LOL

So every 4 minutes we'd take a walk break. Actually, every 3 minutes I'd get the question "Is it time for the walk break yet?" and I would say "Almost." At the first walk break she thought that meant she could sit down and drink water! I told her she had to keep up with me so we modified it so that I would hold the water bottle while she drank from it and we both walked. What a site we were but hey - I was getting my run and and she and I were spending time together :)

As we neared the end we passed by the pond by the house and she left me to finish the last .5 mile on my own.

Overall it was a great run! My knee didn't hurt at all and my ankle barely gave me any trouble. Whew!

I asked her if she'd do it with me again and she said yes, but for not so long - LOL. Looks like a 5K is her distance for now! We'll work on that and someday maybe she and I will run a marathon together! There have to be mom & daughter teams out there somewhere don't you think?

    Great post Kris.

I would love to have my daughter join me in those types of events. Maybe this year I can get her to start being inspired to get involved with her health.

If there aren't mother/daughter teams you can be the pioneer!

It sounds like you had a nice workout with your DD. I always enjoy it when my son joins me in my walk/run. He either rides his bike or his skateboard. LOL! It's fun to spend time with our kids while being active at the same time. emoticon
