Back to work...

After a month (seriously, a whole month has passed??) of making excuses (some valid, some not), I am thanking my lucky stars that the damage has only been about 2 lbs gained, and I’m ready to take that off, and more. I am going to go back to using the calorie counter religiously, and return to my successful practice of avoiding pretty much all white starches. Today was the first day in a few weeks that I have been able to run without pain (more or less…there always seems to be something that hurts), and despite attempts by my asthma and my IT band, I had a pretty good run this morning. It would also be great if I could start doing some kind of activity in the evenings, too, now that the days are pretty long and there’s nothing good on TV. I’m re-reading New Moon, and I’ve made a rule that I can only read it while I walk on the treadmill, so I can do that for a little each evening. Even 30 or 45 minutes would be better spent doing that than watching Simpson’s reruns.
What I’ve learned this month, though, is how easy it is to slip back into old habits. It’s not like I was eating all crap and not doing anything, but I definitely was not being as careful as I need to be. And truthfully, my diet was never that bad in terms of what I was eating, it’s more of a portion control problem for me. This is something I need to work on, and I’d appreciate any tips from anyone who has successfully navigated this.
I usually don’t give myself deadlines (lose X lbs by this date), bc I don’t want to get too attached to numbers, but I think that this one is realistic. I am going to Las Vegas on August 21 with my whole family, and I want to lose 20 more lbs by then. 20 lbs in 12 weeks is completely realistic for me, and I think that if I don’t have a race or something to train for, I can use this as a goal. So 20 lbs by 8/21. I got this!!
