Yogurt, hummus, and my new non-food reward

Monday, June 08, 2009

I don't like yogurt but I found myself eating yogurt for breakfast. I'm hooked! I know I don't like the idea of what yogurt is (cultures and all that microscopic stuff that gives me the heebee jeebees) but I know that I like the way it tastes. Except for that certain tartness that's in yogurt. Nice addition to my favorite foods list.

Not to be left out, hummus shows up and impresses. I'm not big on having beans or peas as my source of protein for a meal. I'm a proud carnivore, a meatatarian if you will. Imagine my surprise at loving dinner tonight; hummus on pita bread topped with romaine lettuce tossed in salsa.

I am amazed! This is a really good start for me. I am so used to just throwing together what I think is good but SP is actually showing me what's good. I'm glad I stepped outside of my comfort level to give yogurt and hummus a try.

I also came up with a non-food reward. I spend so much time on Facebook playing games it's ridiculous. Some of that time can be spent exercising. To that end, I will now only go on Facebook and play games after I've done at least the cardio portion of my work out. The walking is the most important thing for me right now and I'm walking three miles a day. I want to slowly increase it and I can't do it if I'm in the house online. So, if I want to play I've got to pay, so to speak. One more walk and I'm done for the day!

I've been trying to eat yogurt every morning for breakfast, too. I guess those little probiotics are good for ya! And I love hummus. I keep telling my husband, "Hummus is yummus!" but he still won't try it :)

I saw your post on the message boards about not eating enough calories each day. That's been happening to me, too, but I've been trying to reach the lower limit just to see if it will help me keep on track for longer this time. They say slower is better -- especially when it comes to weight loss. I'm going to try to stay patient this time -- what's more important is how I feel in the long-term, right?

I hope you're still loving SparkPeople as much as I do! emoticon

i have no time, so, i have a gazelle- i get to watch a tv series show while doing it-- so- i get my treat with my exercise-- that gets me to do my cardio!
