Knock on wood and other ramblings...

...I am feeling alot better mentally...THANK GOD!

I am in serious doubt I am getting a decent calorie burn read and I feel I may be consuming too many calories. I feel my Nike + Ipod system is giving me a calorie burn that is way too high compared to the treadmill and I would like someone to tell me which may be more accurate. With the treadmill my heart rate is monitored and with the Nike+ it is not. Ideas anyone? I am considering getting a Polar HRM or Garmin or SOMETHING. I just want a good read I can trust. If I had my druthers...I would like one that gives me 1) distance 2) heart rate 3) calories burned and if you put those three together you are talking $$$!

It makes me want to go screaming into the night!!!!!!!!

Carry on...

I have a heart rate monitor with a strap and it is very accurate. However, the ones on the equipment at the gym are less trustworthy... I have never used Nike+, so I don't know about that...

I spent less than $50 on my HRM watch from Sears and it is one of my bestest friends ever. Not as pricey and I can time my run/walk intervals with it for my marathon training. As I mentioned, the Nike+ and SP typically are way off on estimations/calculations. As for nutrition for running...a whole other topic. I highly recommend you get to the library or bookstore and look at Nancy Clark's nutrition books for runners. You would be shocked to see how much runners must eat to fuel themselves. It is a struggle for me each day to reach those goals. If you don't fuel up right then you will surely crash. I am gaining weight (not losing) from running...but did lose 30 lbs before I began my marathon training.

I have a Polar HRM but it doesn't tell me how many calories I burn but I know fellow sparkers that have a Polar that does tell them this and I've heard great things. I wish I would have splurged a little more and got it myself instead someone else picked it up for me and I had no idea what I was getting.
