This is sort of the bike that I am renting for the Pelotonia www.pelotonia.org
- different color though...It's the Cannondale Six Feminine... they are going to put a different seat on it for me, something a little more comfortable, but the thing is so light that I can easily do several biceps curls with it! It's a 51cm bike and has 18 gears but I learned that this is not the proper terminology - it's a double 9??? SIGH - the kid helping me was all of 12 years old, ok, he looked 12, he was probably 16, and probably thought I was the dumbest female alive and why in the world am I setting out to ride 180 miles when I don't know a thing about bikes! :) But I did test ride it and they almost didn't get it back. It was wonderful! Incredibly smooth shifting! I pick up the bike on the Monday before the ride and return it the following Monday so this will give me time to ride it a few times and get used to it.
Speaking of shifting - I need to learn a lot more on that but yesterday I got some practice on a 19 mile ride!
Yup - this is where the - I almost killed David - comes in. Story continues below.
So here is the route that I mapped out thru the Pataskala Countryside. Green arrow denotes home. It's a total of 18.96 miles. No big deal right? I gotta be able to do 100 in one day right? Good thing I do spinning! LOL. It took us 1 hour and 47 minutes (actually, it took David a little over 2 hours) because he couldn't handle the hills. I think it was a combination of several things...
1. David hasn't been on a bike in 15 years - at least not going farther than a mile or two.
2. He was riding Dave W.'s old bike while I road David's old bike, I think Dave W's bike is a POS and then the seat was a little too low for David. Need to lift the seat up but the thingy that locks the seat in place is rusted! Need to soak it in WD40 tonight.
3. He's out of shape. :)
So here's the elevation of the ride.
It's just a 1% grade - and logically you know that if you go up you have to come down - right?? But I tell ya, to David it felt like it was UPHILL THE ENTIRE TIME! LOL. It felt great to me :) I powered up those hills, went flying down the hills, looked behind me and didn't see David. I'd slow down and wait for him to catch up, let him catch his breath and then off we'd go again. Finally I had to leave him behind because I had to get home so grandma could get to church by 5 pm and she was watching Nicole. David came in about 15 or so minutes later. He said that the ride was a Mobious strip - always going up! LOL.
Poor thing - he said his knee was bothering him :( I know it's because he's just not used to it.
My "butt" is a little sore but I know with more riding it will get used to it. I totally could have gone faster and longer than I did. I figure 1 hour 47 minutes I should have been able to go almost 30 miles but we did just 19. I don't know if David's going to go on anymore rides with me... I may have killed him! He also said he'd rather go run 3 miles than bike ride! Hmmm... wait till I make him run a 10k! LOL. (Just talked to him a bit ago - he is passing on most future bike rides for the moment - LOL)
By the way - I had already gardened for 3 hours getting weeds pulled and all the tomatoes staked up. I then mowed the grass for 1.5 hours after my bike ride. David went home and collapsed I think!
OK, here's the new ride for tomorrow night
And then another long ride for Sunday next. I'll ride up to Johnstown then do the bike trail to Newark and back. That should be a nice long ride - almost 54 miles. :)
