Behind the Scenes

Thursday, August 13, 2009

The scale hasn't been overly cooperative, but I have noticed some differences lately that prove, at least to me, that this has been worth it, and that there is more going on that meets the eye. July 1st I weighed in around 246, and haven't made much progress on that since. There were a few weeks of vacation and other distractions, so I wasn't really concerned with my Aug 1st weigh in at the same number.. at least I maintained!!

In August I have been really busting my butt. I joined the Running Room Learn to run clinic in late July and that has been fun, and I also added in some swimming and biking the last 2 weeks, so last week it looked something like:

Mon: 1 hr walk around the bike paths
Tues: 55 min run on treadmill @ lunch + 45 min on stationary bike after work
Wed: Weight Training + Running Club (1:1's x10) + Swimming @ Cardel x 30 mins
Thurs: 55 min stationary bike at gym @ lunch + Running Clinic (2:1's x 8?)
Friday: Swimming @ BB 60 mins
Saturday: Hiked around drumheller, lets say 2 hrs of actual walking etc

This week so far

Mon: 55 min run on treadmill at lunch (5.0+)
Tues: Weights @ lunch + 60 mins Bike after work
Wed: 55 min Elliptical + run club (2:1's x 8)
Thurs: 55 min bike? + Run clinic (3:1's x ?) (none of Thursday has happened yet)

And my food has been good, not perfect everyday, but out of the last 14 days, 12 have been dead on.

So the scale on Monday was 251... Not very encouraging. I was a starting to think all this insanity wasn't worth it. Tuesday said 246, today was 243.. So it was just messing with me!! We'll see what Monday brings through.

As for noticeable changes, I noticed today that I'm using a notch in the belt that has never been used, that my clothes really are fitting better, and the towels at the gym reaches all the way around me, almost so I don't have to hold it closed, almost. Not to mention I have way more energy, and have been doing more chores around the house, and just getting out and about being more and more social. I was becoming a bit of a hermit, because I felt like crap all the time between smoking and being fat. Now I have no memory of when the last time I turned my Xbox 360 on, I sold my Wii because I realized it hadn't been touched since before the new year.. and well I just feel more positive about life overall.

So just because the scale gives you a freaky number once in awhile, or is stubborn for weeks on end, it doesn't mean things aren't happening behind the scenes.
