#46: Are You Like a Shark?
Friday, August 14, 2009
Are you like a shark? Do you continually make progress toward your goals of weight loss and better health?
Just as sharks must keep moving forward to live, so must we, as people, continually strive toward our goals for a feeling of worth and satisfaction.
Everything does not need to be done at one time or in one day. That would be impossible for most of us. But, a little at a time, on a steady basis, our journey to fitness should reach new levels.
A study, "Time, Work, and Meaning", for a Ph.D. dissertation, found that people who fail to feel as if they are making strides toward their goals are five times as likely to give up than someone who experiences steady progress.
Additionally, people not progressing were three times less likely to feel satisfied with their lives.
We need meaning in our lives. In our own ways we want to achieve. Writing down our goals makes us more likely to succeed. Visualizing the new person we want to become will enhance our efforts to make progress.
Remember, Rome was not built in a day. Neither was our excess weight gained in a day. And, it won't be lost in a day.
But by moving forward a little at a time, we can live a life of self-satisfaction, a life where we feel better about ourselves, where we can be proud of how we look and with how we feel.
Cement your goals in writing. Visualize achieving them daily.
Keep moving forward, like a shark.
