#47: Meaning
Saturday, August 15, 2009
There is one thing that is eight times more likely to bring us satisfaction than money and eight times more likely to bring us satisfaction than prestige or recognition.
IT is feeling that there is meaning to our lives, according to a study titled, "What Makes a Life Good" published in the Journal of Personality and Social Psychology.
Eight times!
Researchers found that 'meaning' is the single most important thing someone can achieve in their life.
Having a life filled with purpose in everything we do will make our days valuable and worthwhile.
But, in order to achieve meaning and fulfillment, we must do one thing first: earn our own respect. Remember, we are not on our journeys to fitness to appease others. Rather we seek weight loss and better health for ourselves.
Self-respect and faith in ourselves will result in better motivation and greater achievement. Respect in ourselves will allow us to focus on what we CAN achieve on our own, with inspiration from others, rather than on what we can not.
Such an attitude will allow us to better tolerate minor setbacks and frustrations on our pathways to a new 'us'.
With a healthy self-respect and faith in ourselves, we can move mountains.
