Balance. I have a problem with it. Not just balance as in core physical balance.... that has always been a dilemna for me... I've never been a fantastic rollerblader, surfing was always hard for me too. But that type of balance needs practice and conditioning just like the balance I'm working on now: balancing great work outs with proper food portions. For the past week I've been working out each day, burning an average of 500 calories per day by swimming, hiking or doing cardio classes at the gym. It makes me so hungry. I try to eat healthy meals and snacks, but knowing when to cut back on portion size eventhough your stomach is growling is my current problem. Isn't your body the best tool to judge when you're hungry or not? That's what they say when you're full.... to eat slowly and your body is usually naturally full after a meal within 20 minutes. What if your body is telling you to eat more? Hmmmm. I guess I should stock up on celery, jicama, radishes (yuck!) and other (non-food) food items that have less than five calories a serving. I'll call them pretend food. All the processes of eating and digesting but without the actual calories. I think I burn more calories opening the fridge, rinsing and cutting up these veggies than they actually contain. Good in theory. Bad on the palette. Boring... Yaaaaawwwwwnnnn.... yet it's something to think about. Maybe I've conditioned myself so much over the years to eat until I'm full that these types of tricks are what it's going to take. "I heart jicama" might be my new slogan. If only radishes weren't so disgusting....
