Celebrating my birthday with scheduling a colonoscopy!!!

Thursday, September 03, 2009

My birthday is tomorrow and I celebrated it early by scheduling my very first colonoscopy!! I am so giddy I could pee my pants! I have no family history of problems nor am I having any problems so this is just your basic turning 50 (actually 51) baseline test. My husband is anxious to see what I am like coming out of anesthesia because he is an absolute hoot when he is coming to. I am thinking of this as a golden perhaps a good way to lose another pound or two. HEY! Ya gotta make it fun somehow.

I have been so happy with myself this week in the fitness area. I had a few times where I almost talked myself out of heading to the streets, but I did not. I used the strategy of telling myself just to take a 30 minute easy walk and end up taking it to at least 50 minutes. I am pretty impressed with that tactic. It works! Just check out my fitness tracker.

Another little celebration I am having with myself is the fact that I am now fitting into some what I call archived clothes. You know that pile in the back of the closet that yu outgrew a long time ago because they shrunk? Yea...those. I started out round two of SparkPeople this past May in size 14 and now...size 10. THAT feels great! Gosh I love this website!

What a great, positive blog! And you have unknowingly made me feel guilty about putting off my baseline colonoscopy. My dad had colon cancer in 2001 - he's 8 years cancer free - and my brothers and sisters and I were all told to have one by the time we were 40. Yikes - I am a little late with that. Thanks for the reminder.

(Let me know if it ends up being as fun as you make it sound.)

Happy Birthday tomorrow. I guess I wouldn't mind my colonoscopy if they put me under. There must be some that don;t need anaesthetic but that drink before is the killer for me.

    Good luck

I don't know if I would go so far as to say that a colonoscopy is a 'fun' way to lose a pound or two. I had one a couple years ago and I thought I woke all normal and stuff, but Kristy said I kept asking her the same stuff over and over. To think I wanted to drive myself. emoticon
Congratulations on keeping up with the exercise this week. I find that when I talk myself into it, I have some of my best workouts.

    Happy Birthday! emoticon
