(Half) Marathon (Wo)Man

Well, I'm ready to sign up for a half marathon! TC and I walked 6 miles this morning and I feel just fine.

The half marathon that seems doable is on November 7 in Wynne, Arkansas. NOT a very exciting part of the state (the delta) but it's close, cheap, and on a Saturday, so it works!

I'll continue my treadmill/work out schedule as usual; the only difference will be a "long walk" each Saturday. I think we'll up the Saturday walk by a mile each week until October 24, which is when we'll hit 12 miles. That's 2 weeks before the race and we'll back off the last two weeks.

A half marathon is only 13.1 miles, so EASY PEASY!

    Way to go for you TG!! I think I want to do that. P really likes walking and hiking so maybe this would be something we could do together!!

    Hi Makambo,
    We've done walking races for years. Certainly we started with 5K's, but then graduated to 10K's and then half marathons and FINALLY, in 2001, the Niagara Marathon! Since it was just after 9/11 we could not walk across the Peace Bridge from Buffalo to Canada, so that was a disappointment. AND IT RAINED, but we made it, 26.2 miles in 6 hours and 45 minutes! The races are GREAT MOTIVATORS to keep on walking!

    ONLY 13.1 miles!!!! That may be "easy peasy" for you... I'll be following your training closely and I am sure it will get me walking even more! After all, what is a little 3 miles compared to your great achievement to come!! There is no reason I cannot (someday!) do at least half as good as you!!! emoticon
