Thinking Like a Thin Person...

This is a lot like Vandal's blog about mindless eating, but this is what I observed today.

We had a reception and ribbon cutting for a new building opening on campus. There was lovely food and a ton of it -- lots of finger foods, petit fours and bite-sized desserts, etc. Punch flowing out of a fountain.

And what I noticed was that the people eating like it was their last meal on earth were mostly overweight, while the people who were visiting and enjoying the conversation were mostly thin. It was 4:30 in the afternoon, so who should have been hungry for all that stuff? I tell you who wasn't -- the thin people.

In the past I would have been one of of those folks eating just because it was there, it was free, and I wouldn't want to hurt anyone's feelings! Now I am beginning to really understand that I have to guard my calories and spend them wisely.

I felt very about myself today, because after I surveyed the tables of food, I just didn't feel like anything was really worth it. The only thing I could eat on my diet, the veggies without dip, weren't even worth the bother. Someone handed me a glass of ice cream punch. It was a flavor I don't care for, and after about 3 sips I realized I didn't have to drink it, I threw it out! Such a little thing yet how empowering it felt to make that choice! The alternative would have been to consume about 100+ caloris on something I didn't even like.

I did well with all my goals today. I also felt like I had a day "thinking like a thin person."

I hope everyone also had an excellent day, especially Nancy, because I'm working hard for the first bragging rights to the 150's!

    Hey there TG,

    Another great blog and make sure you give yourself LOTS of CREDIT for your actions today. It really is empowering to be in control ( I guess we'll have to work on Nancy!!).

    It's the week-end - well okay - it's Friday but I want you to stay in the zone you created today. You have it going again and Monday you will be rewarded. When was the last time you had a 5??

    Thanks for the tip on the race - P said she wanted to do it so I think I'll sign us up over the week-end. It should be fun! Napa is a beautiful setting and I'm excited - maybe I'll even post a picture of me in the shirt we get (no faces and I'm not promising anything).

    Wonderful - really good work!

    I behaved the opposite today. Unexpectedly forced to go out to lunch with my boss and a salesperson; I indulged in a bleu cheese burger w/fries & onion rings.

    I am very good when I plan and control my environment but -almost always- parties, restaurants and other "special occasions" I am one of the overweights shoveling in the calories. And I know better...just weak willed. I read the Beck Diet Solution several months ago - I can't find it now but perhaps I should re-read it and work on those situations.

    Yoga tonight which means no dinner because you can't eat before yoga and now it's too late. Perhaps that will help undo some of the damage...but I think what you did and what I did might give you a slight edge for today.

    Tomorrow will be a better day for me.
