#109: Obstacles

How do you handle obstacles and respond to setbacks?
Do you surrender to the situation or do you re-group, adjust your thinking and persevere?
Let's look at a perhaps typical day. You hit the snooze button and oversleep by 15 minutes. You don't call in sick to work, do you?
On your drive to work a traffic light turns red. You don't turn around and go back home, do you?
At work, your supervisor rejects an idea of yours. You don't quit your job, do you?
On the way home you stop for groceries and after filling a shopping cart you learn the store is out of one item you wanted. You don't park your cart and head to the parking lot empty-handed, do you?
Leaving the store you run into a traffic backup. You don't abandon your car and walk away, do you?
You get home and see that the kids have made a mess of the house. You don't give the kids away (as much as you'd like to sometimes) or immediately sell the house, do you?
It's time for bed and you reach to set the alarm for the next day. Remembering the snooze alarm that lead to your oversleeping that morning, you don't throw the alarm in the trash, do you?
We overcome obstacles every day and normally do not think twice about our actions to adjust to these hindrances of life, do we?
So we overeat one day, or do not exercise, do we then quit our program? Of course not. We pick ourselves up and begin anew.
Don't be discouraged if every day isn't a perfect one. Understand that they are typical. Perfect days are rare and are to be treasured.
Obstacles? Overcome, adjust, adapt.
It's the way of life.
