Surgery date is set.

Thursday, October 22, 2009

So I went back to the doc on Wednesday. And, like I thought he would - he said I needed surgery to fix the TWO things that are wrong with my hip (yep, not one, but two). He is going to fix the frayed labrum first. But, I also have a femoacetabular impingement. For those who aren't up on the anatomical terms - I have a bump on the head of my femur that prevents it from sitting correctly in the socket (acetabulum). So, he's going to shave that piece of bone off.

The good news - anesthesia and pain killers, haha. Also the surgery is on November 2 - so I don't have to wait too long. He only does one hip sugery a week, only on Mondays. So he's not double and triple booked with arthroscopic procedures - I get his full attention. Yay!

The bad news - 6 weeks of crutches. I guess I'll live. I will be able to go back to work after a week, and I go to physical therapy on the day after the surgery to work on correcting my imbalance, also a yay!

I will be off of crutches by Christmas. Don't know if I'll be 100% at that time, so the Flying Pig might be 13.1 instead of 26.2, but we'll see.

I hope things go well, Molly. I'll look forward to hearing all kinds of good things from you around Christmas, when your crutches are off.

    Best of luck!

I'm so glad you're getting this taken care of so soon!! And yes, 6 weeks on crutches stinks but 6 weeks on crutches AFTER waiting a few more months for the surgery in the first place would be so much worse. I'd say overall this is great news!!

I think having that peace of mind to know a) what's wrong and b) what needs to be done is a huge step forward!
I find it awesome that he can fix the problem, right? At least it's not something permanent that is going to keep you out for a long time! So yeh!
Thanks for keeping us in the loop- at least your upper body will be rock hard from all that hard work on crutches!
Best of luck with the surgery Molly!
