Just for Today

Just For Today

Just for today,

I WILL TRY TO LIVE THROUGH THIS DAY ONLY,

And not tackle my whole life’s problems at once.

I can do some things for twelve hours

That would appall me if I felt I had to keep them up for a lifetime.

Just for today,

I WILL BE HAPPY.

This assumes what Abraham Lincoln said is true that

“Most folks are about as happy as they make up their minds to be.”

Happiness is from within and is not a matter of externals.

Just for today,

I WILL TAKE CARE OF MY BODY.

I will exercise it, care for it, and nourish it along

Lines best known to modern science for keeping

It healthy so that it will be a perfect machine for my will

Just for today,

I WILL EXERCISE MY SOUL IN AT LEAST THREE WAYS:

I will do someone a good turn an not brag about it;

I will do at least two things that I do not want to do just for exercise.

I will not show anyone that my feelings are hurt, even if somebody hurts them.

Just for today,

I WILL BE AGREEABLE.

I will look as well as I can, dress as becomingly as possible,

Talk low, act courteously, not withholding a word of praise.

I will not criticize one bit,

Not find fault with anything,

And not try to regulate or improve anyone.

Just for today,

I WILL HAVE A PROGRAM
I will write down just what I expect to do each hour of the day

I may not follow it exactly, but I will have it and if I can follow it somewhat,

It will save me from the two modern sins

Of hurry and indecision.

Just for today,

I WILL HAVE A QUIET HALF-HOUR

and review my day as to get a little more perspective to my life.

Just for today,

I WILL BE UNAFRAID.

I will keep the door shut to fear. Especially will I be unafraid to be happy, to enjoy the beautiful, to love and to believe that those I love, love me.

I've bookmarked this and I will come back to it whenever I need a reminder. I may very well use it as the basis for morning devotional for a bit.

    Thank you. Truly thank you.

Liked your new blog that tells a little about you. I am going to keep up with your blog because we started a day apart. I can so relate to some of the things that you said today. First I am so sick of clothes that look so childish or frumpy. I really want to get down to a size 14 so that I can buy cute clothes. What kind of dog do you have? We are watching our daughter's dog and the dog gains 1 pound a week living with us. BECAUSE WE DON'T WALK HER! I am 20 years your senior. I am a retired RN. I wish that I had someone to play tennis with. I do play golf once or twice a week and walk 6 miles once a week with my friend at the beach here in So. Cal. I live with my husband who is a retired chef and now a substitute teacher. He has been ill and just lost 10 pounds which means that I am now 11 pounds heavier than him and that really torks me off. We have 3 grown children all married and 6 grandchildren from 18 to almost 3. We don't see them enough but are looking forward to a visit from 2 of them this month. I am doing ok. I have lost about a pound, but I am not going to count what I loose except once a week. I have not eaten sugar in 18 days and I am drinking more water which I think are the keys for me. Anyway thanks again for being so available. Your blog makes me feel like I am doing this with a friend and i really needed that. In 1981 I lost 80 pounds on weight watchers and became a lecturer. I believe in the support system as a tool. I was going to go back to w. w. but when i heard about this site and that it is free I decided to try it first. I love that I can add my own foods to my favorites and put in the nutritional content and tract the foods that i actually eat. Have a great week-end
