Old Clothes

Saturday, November 14, 2009

I found myself standing in my closet this morning wondering what to wear. My good jeans are in the dirty clothes and I do not have time to wash them before heading to the mall with my husband and kids. It is a special treat to have my husband with me on a Saturday. He is a football coach and playoffs just started but they lost last night ending their season early and leaving him with free weekends until January when track season starts. (He is also head track coach.) Needless to say, I wanted to look nice while we did some shopping and ran errands that I usually do on my own.

So there I am, digging through the closet looking for some casual Saturday clothes and finding everything is dirty. Then I pulled out a pair of jeans that are a size twenty-two. I last put these jeans on a year ago while laying on the bed. I sat up and couldn't breath so I quickly took them off and put them back in my closet and did my best to forget them. Today I pulled them on while standing in my closet. As I pulled them closed I was shocked to find I did not have to suck in. They fit perfectly! I bent down in them and they did not dig into my stomach. Smiling I looked for a shirt to go with them. I pulled out a really cute striped shirt that was a Christmas gift three years ago but I had never worn because it was too tight. It too fits perfectly.

Old clothes stuck in the back of the closet have always been a reminder of the me I never thought I would get back. When I hit size eighteen, way back before my twins were born, I threw out all of my size fives and sixes because it was too painful to look at them. After my youngest daughter was born I threw out the tens, twelves, sixteens, eighteens, and twenty-twos. This one pair of jeans was all I had left below a twenty-four. Now I am thinking I need to do some shopping soon because before long I will be throwing out all of my size twenty-fours and will start seeing some of those smaller sizes coming back into my closet!

Thanks everyone for the encouragement. It was a great feeling and I am still flying high because of it. I love the consignment shop idea. I will definitly chech one out soon and see if I can find a small treasure to hold on to until it fits.

That is great!! I am so happy for you! There is nothing like finding your "skinny" clothes fit again! Ive been going into stores and just trying things on just to see how they look and feel. I have been surprised to find my sizes shrinking. I refuse to buy for a while yet. Seems like a waste when I hope they to will be too big in a short time.

Glad you could enjoy your husband today. Hope you are having a great weekend! Keep up the awesome work!

I've recently had the experience of fitting in clothes that were too small. It feels great when you realize that you have come so far in the journey. Enjoy these non-scale victories. Enjoy the journey. :)

Isn't that a wonderful feeling? I've still got one size smaller in my closet before I'll have to buy clothes that fit, but fitting into those old clothes is such a great feeling. Keep up the great work.

It's a great feeling, isn't it? One of the things I love doing as I get closer to goal is open up the boxes of clothes I have stored away and try them on. Also, I love consignment shopping because when I get to the really small sizes (which unfortunately I'm not at right now), all the good designer clothes are available for a song (not that many size 4's and size 6's out there shopping consignment, I guess!). Good luck to you for your continued success!

Isn't that encouraging?! I love that! When you realize the clothes you've been wearing are a size or two too big. It's like winning the lottery! I hope you enjoyed you Saturday out with your hubby and your thinner self.
