Starting life the McDougall way

Well here goes. My first attempt at a blog. Hopefully this will be successful. I have failed at diarys as a child and journals as an adult. Everyone says this is a great way to stay motivated. We shall see. I am very good at my marriage (25 yrs) and very good at my career but not good at taking good care of me.

My journey is to follow the McDougall plan for 1 year. My goals are to lose weight, prevent illness related to obesity, and optimize lab values. Thus far I don't have medical issues related to weight but know that this can not go on forever.

I had actually heard of Dr. McDougall DrMcDougall.com many years ago but was not ready to eat a plant based diet. Two years ago I discovered a book called Extending the Table. This book is about eating more the way the rest of the world eats in order to better care for ourselves and the world. We began eating vegetarian now and then. We then ate vegetarian about twice per week. It was so difficult to make the transition. I didn't understand it. Over time and with research we began eating vegetarian multiple times per week. We both feel better. So now I am jumping in and will follow the McDougall plan. I have concerns and fears and everything else that goes along with a move like this.

So we shall see if I can stick to the blog and stick to the vegetarian lifestyle.
